And can selectors just leave Bairstow alone please. Apart from Root and possibly Stokes, he is our next best bat in all conditions. He goes through bad patches as even the best do but true class players work it out. Unbelievable decision that he is going to be the first batsman to be rested for the first two tests vs India, when he didnt play test cricket last year. How can selectors be so worried about him playing too much cricket in 2021 when they have so little confidence in him and will be the first to be dropped? They havent even given him a central contract for **** sake. We have so few batsmen who are even slightly comfortable vs spinners in Asian conditions, just a very odd decision.
I don't think they have draws in Sri Lanka. It will be like playing on a different wicket day 3 onwards. With the difference in ability of spinners if we dont reach parity, we are ****ed.

Blimey, I've just looked at the overnight scorecard. Have they moved this test match from the subcontinent? Our spinners didn't get one wicket. I bet that hasn;t happened very often in Sri Lanka. Incredible effort from Anderson (too old, can only do it in England)
Crawley's worth staying with but Sibley shouldn't be considered for India.

Another monumental innings by Root, 186 before being unluckily run out by short leg. He must be absolutely knackered. Good job he has found form as the rest of the batting has been indifferent. Could be an interesting last two days.
I think fatigue got him in the end. He had started making a couple of mistakes in the overs leading up to this. Very smart, quick thinking, by Fernando.
Root has scored 418 runs in this series (to date). Sri Lanankan bowler has got him out thus far.
