Scholes actually might have been in fairness, not going to disagree with that. Truth is though that they were simply different players and actually not easily comparable even though people seem to insist on trying. You need a manager who can utilise them correctly or have the balls to stick to a system even if it means leaving out one of your best players... oh and luck.
Went out on penalties twice under SGE when we could have easily had semi-finals and then we had an equalising goal incorrectly not given against Germany by.. erm... Lampard (seems a lot like someone stepped up when it mattered). It happens, that's the game, but as someone who regularly watches a team full of players going through the motions at club level I cannot recall ever seeing that from Lampard in an England shirt.
