Scholes actually might have been in fairness, not going to disagree with that. Truth is though that they were simply different players and actually not easily comparable even though people seem to insist on trying. You need a manager who can utilise them correctly or have the balls to stick to a system even if it means leaving out one of your best players... oh and luck.

Went out on penalties twice under SGE when we could have easily had semi-finals and then we had an equalising goal incorrectly not given against Germany by.. erm... Lampard (seems a lot like someone stepped up when it mattered). It happens, that's the game, but as someone who regularly watches a team full of players going through the motions at club level I cannot recall ever seeing that from Lampard in an England shirt.

I agree.. I think sven and others were spoiled for choice in that area, but they never accepted lamps and Gerrard didn't work

Then why didn't it? It was never right that Combo and was a topic of debate for a decade.... Nolan would've done better

Could probably do with a Gerrard v Lampard thread. Not sure one of those has been done before.

Clearly Lampard is much better otherwise Gerard wouldn't be managing in a Mickey Mouse league, the quality of which is an embarrassment to the word "football"

    @ general chat to confirm

Because of the formation they were playing in. 4 4 2 was all wrong for them. Down to the manager.

Sunderland are in serious trouble..nkw 9th in league one and 6 points off the play offs.. I mean it's hard to feel sorry for myself as a Toon fan when I see that.. I mean it's hilarious, but I do have empathy
