2 of my ford locking wheel nuts will not come loose ( replacing with normal nuts) the key is chowed to bits so only got 2 off the other 2 are solid. I can't seem to find and garages in Sunderland who do removal or do I try the removal tools you can get from Halfords? The reviews are mixed on the tool. Cheers in advance... I did try the smacking on a socket but it just didn't budge.

The RAC or other breakdown outfits would do it.

Otherwise the Halfords tool should work.

A hammer drill with a short thick drill bit might be worth a try.

Whatever the case, mind your fingers mate.

I've watched a few YouTube videos on how to get them off but the cold kills my hands having bad white finger! **** like this never happens in the summer does it? Off all fails I get the welder out hahaha

sometimes can get bashing an old socket over, if goes on might find it splits the socket. can buy tool to remove or sometimes a master set, but that will probably work out more expensive than taking to garage or breakdown call out.

Would of thought most garages will remove for you, back street too, might need to point out you accept the wheel might show some signs of damage after.

Just because as Liverpools forum will be watching this thread if you ever thinkong of taking you car down there as you have foolishly told them your replacing with normal nuts!!!

1. Have you tried releasing fluid on the stud, left on overnight. I use plus gas but there might be something better around now
2. Apply heat to crack the seal
3. What material is the nut made from? When I'm working on bikes the last resort for stubborn steel nuts has been to weld an old large screwdriver to the nut and use the driver as a breaking bar. The heat from an arc welder also helps to break the seal..

Maybe tyre fitters are the nearest thing to an expert, they must hit this problem from time to time?

Yeah you're right, tyre fitters is a good one.

They have high pressure air guns and various sized 'grabbers'.

I hope @Mav3rick keeps us posted ...

... we're a bit short of entertainment and this is the most excitement I've had in weeks <laugh>

The garage just off shiney row roundabout did mine a while back - I'd list the fecking key and they just drilled them off for me.

I smacked my thumb today trying to get a undersized socket on so it's almost to the point of setting it on fire and claiming on the insurance . Mods please remove if I do this so the plod don't check hahah

It's actually not on that tight mate but it has a outer ring that spins so you can't get anything to grab. The key is mangled so slips out of the pattern. If I can't get it sorted on Monday I'm borrowing my mates welder and I'll just weld a nut on and get it off that way! It's very stressful just to change the bloody nuts to normal ones

Didnt realise its that type. the outer ring that spins is not made of hard metal, you need to use either a thin chisel or a screwdriver will probably do, split that ring, remove it.

Then get an old socket thats a bit tight ish, bash it on, might be easier with it on end of short extension so you dont hit fingers again. then try with your power bar.

This will work mate, was a mechanic & have removed like this in past, only fails if they have been put in to tight.

One of the first things I do when buying a car is get rid of the locking nut, and replace with an ordinary one, mind, I drive older cars

Just park it up in Hendon. Some local will soon have them off

As of today it still has 2 of the 4 nuts still on! It's ruined X2 chisels X1 punch and the thumb of my right hand! Tomorrow is the day tho they will be removed even if I have to smash the bloody wheels off with a 14llb hammer! I will not be defeated. They are made out of some super human metal stuff I'm sure

You should ask if any of the neighbours have cctv footage of you stomping up and down, cursing and throwing your tools up in the air.

It's a guaranteed £250 off Harry Hill, use the money to call out a garage and split the rest with your neighbour ...

... job done.
