It always seemed madness to me to try and wriggle out of it, we were inevitably going to have to pay up.

No more bull crap of this nature under Dreyfus and his crew you'd imagine.

i hope this money comes from Donalds pocket and maybe this is the true reason the deal was delayed so the greedy ****er has to pay his own dues

I agree it shouldn't be Dreyfus who pays but I suppose it goes back to Donald's deal with Short as to where this cash comes from. Either way it's an absolute cluster **** of a 'signing' (I honestly don't know what to call it!). Damning indictment of how we were being ran. Dreyfus probably had it as a case study as to how 'not' to do a deal when he was doing his football studies at the uni in Leeds.

From what I remember he was injured but looked decent enough. Was it the I jury that made them change their mind and send him back or was he not good enough?

Still the most ridiculous deal to sign in the first place and then to think you can back out of it. If only we had some one with an understanding of law at the club, I know contract law is a different beast but still she should have been in a position yo say actually we should maybe think about this a second.

Shorts biggest failure summed up in this deal. Hiring unqualified and inept people in the top roles at the club, who just milked the club and gave **** all back. Went through the motions of the job, I bet solitaire was worn out on their PC's. Byrne even got a career as an agent out of the players at the club during her time.

Great hearing that we are now looking to do things right, not be about 3 decades behind everyone else. I mean data just starting to be used?

That fecker must have cost more than Mbappe when it's all counted up. Whoever signed him should be in jail, along with the bloke who invented de-caffeinated, instant tea.

Not that tea has got owt to do with it mind, but these two crimes are both almost capital offences, for which jail is only barely sufficient punishment.

“Ellis Short and Stewart Donald have agreed to a 50-50 split regarding the Ricky Alvarez debacle if Sunderland are required to pay any compensation following the completion of the ongoing legal case.”

this is from June 2018... is this something that has just completed, or have Roker Report been informed recently that the club have been lying on?

I think that brings all costs associated with Alvarez past £14m, making him our new club record signing.

Before that it was Ndong at £13.6m (I believe)

It’s unbelievable the money we wasted under Short.

@RokerReport Hearing that #safc have lost the Ricardo Alvarez ‘loss of wages’ appeal, which will see us out of pocket to the tune of £6m. Not great news. (This is on top of the £330k we had to pay his old club Velez Sarsfield, £750k we paid Inter Milan for the initial loan, a further £9.3m to Milan when we lost the case initially) We’re still at loggerheads with Dr Rehman (old club doc) to say he was negligent in the medical and trying to get £13m back from his insurance ‍♂️

    What an absolute farce..

A Lee Congerton special,. The man who signed Rodwell on £70k per week with no relegation clause and Defoe on a deal that he could walk away on a free if we went down but didn't try to renegotiate it when we stayed up, so he leaves 2 years later on a free.

I was told Dr Rehman was on holiday when they did the deal, as he wouldn't have sanctioned it until he'd had the operation he needed, but Congerton pushed it through after being "selective" about the report. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but either way it's been one of the most disastrous signings we've ever made.

What’s wrong with de-caffeinated tea like, surely as long as it tastes the same as the caffeinated variety it’s just another option. Same with coffee. A couple of digestives dipped in, jobs a goodun.

Could have kept him, played him, fixed his injury then sold him. Look what we did. Someone did this out of either arrogance or emotion. It was idiotic and highlights how badly we’ve been run for a decade. They even made a dreadful choice over who they sold us / gave us to.

    alvarez = rodwell?

found a way to make good money by doing very little...and i am thinking SAFC at the time had a reputation for not reading 'conditions of loan/sale' agreements
