I thought the Tories were bad but listening to Trump's impeachment debate there are some complete fruit loops in the Republican party!

The thing is, he is actually getting paid to say these things. The NRA invests millions every year into a slush fund, to buy the support of politicians. It’s all perfectly legal and out in the open. Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley are just a few of the familiar names on this list;

Just as an observation, no party led by Tony Blair is going to redress the balance of power in the workplace in a way that would prevent these abuses.

Probably right, but it sure as hell won’t get better with the Tories in control.
The working class is ****ed, especially when working class people in currently secure jobs vote for a party that would allow what is happening to the British Gas workers to go ahead. But for the grace of God and all that.
I am in the unlucky/lucky position as follows.
I would have qualified for my state pension 6 months ago today, if the retirement age not been changed, which means I am only 6 months away from qualifying for it.
The country needs another Peasants Revolt.

Where's Watt Tyler when you need him?

I am not convinced that impeaching Trump will resolve the problems with American politics and the deep-rooted issues which are entrenched there. Trump let the very ugly genie out of the bottle and it will not easily be forced to return. I feel that the unpleasant, far-right elements of society feel confident that they have been given a voice. The tasks facing Biden are almost insurmountable. The office of President has been totally tainted and the State's status in world politics has been irrevocably tainted by Trump. Internally, there is a very large minority who seem open to challenging the Democrats through either the courts or demonstrations and they will continue to have a grievance that a democratic election has let them down despite the fact that this argument has no credibility. Biden strikes me as being quite weak and anodyne but I am not sure that a strong and potentially divisive Democrat president would be the answer either. I keep thinking just how much worse it would be if Hilary Clinton had been elected this time around and that we would have witnessed something far worse than the storming of the Capitol as a consequence.

It will take more than a generation to repair the damage Trump has done. He has reversed race relations back to the 1960s. Most right thinking people feel he should be impeached and claims that he should face some kind of prosecution do not seem at all wild in these circumstances. Unfortunately, this will just exacerbate the problem. As long as Trump is around as either a politician or a figurehead for dissent, there will be major issues in America. If he is jailed, he will be a cause celebre for many people. If he retains leadership of the Republicans, I think he will be back as President in the next term. He needs to be removed by the Republicans themselves before anything can move on and I am not sure this will happen. (He will fight through the courts the same way he contested the presidential election.)

America has produced a unique problem for itself and I am not sure that it is one where there is a tidy solution or that does not have serious consequences. The problem does not go away with the election of Biden or even if Trump quits the political stage. It is a total disaster zone.
There are a number of issues Trump has face after he leaves the presidency in whatever graceless and ugly manner that my be. He and his family's wheelings and dealings are under scrutiny. I think to there are loans to be repaid that will put more pressure on him when presidential protection gone. I'd love to see him crash

The Daily Fail showing yet again that truth doesn’t matter when it comes to riling the faithful.

Also the FT reports the Government is planning to rip up the 48 hour working directive (in fairness I have never seen this enforced), but more noteworthy - delink overtime from leave calculations and remove the need for employers to report their working hours.

The Government's response typically was a suggestion that leaving the EU allows them to improve workers rights....

Of course none of this is a surprise to anyone with an IQ more than 10.

A it of information, from a travel insurance company, reference the EHIC and the GHIC.

What is EHIC and Will It Still Be Valid After Brexit?
The EHIC card enables UK citizens travelling to a country within the EU to seek emergency treatment or necessary medical care for the same cost as a resident in the visiting country before returning home.

Following Brexit, on the 24th December 2020, the UK and the EU reached a trade deal. It says that all EHIC cards issued before the end of 2020 will be valid until their expiry date. Once an EHIC card has expired or is cancelled, it will be replaced in the form of a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).

However, before going on holiday, the Government website advises that you should buy travel insurance with healthcare cover. It warns that it is “particularly important” to get the right cover if you have a pre-existing medical condition.

The UK launches Global Health Insurance Card
As of the 11th January 2021, UK residents will now be able to apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card.

The new agreement ensures the rights of UK residents to access emergency medical care when travelling in the EU.

The GHIC will cover chronic or existing illnesses and routine maternity care as well as emergencies just like the EHIC. GHIC is free via the official website. Any website charging a fee or that is not the official website may be a scam.

One key difference since that trade agreement, is that neither the EHIC nor the new GHIC now provides cover in four countries that used to offer reciprocal arrangements for British travellers: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, which are in the EEA, but not the EU. Healthcare in Norway and Switzerland, in particular, can be very expensive, so it’s vital to make sure you are properly insured when you travel there.

The UK is also in talks with countries that are part of the EEA regarding further ongoing co-operation with non-EU states. cover under the GHIC arrangements. During office hours you can call them on 0191 218 1999.

Why Medical Travel Insurance is Essential
Over 20% of ALL holidaymakers have needed at some stage to seek medical treatment when abroad. And of course, the likelihood of this can rise if you have a pre-existing medical condition. So the risks of travelling without comprehensive travel insurance are very real…

Although the EHIC card will remain valid until it expires or is cancelled if you choose to travel without travel insurance you could still be facing huge medical expenses should the worse happen. To give you an example of a claim, surgery in Greece which needs your repatriation back to the UK, could result in a bill of up to £25,000.

According to ‘Which?’, UK holidaymakers travelling in the EU could face hospital bills of £2,000 for food poisoning or £14,000 for a heart attack, if they travel without insurance.

An estimated one in five UK holidaymakers doesn’t take out travel insurance before going abroad, according to ABTA research from 2019, meaning millions of people are at risk of having to pay these medical fees out of their own pockets.

Buying the right level of cover can also protect you from medical emergencies and cancellations related to COVID-19.
