One of the major downsides to social media is that it gives absolute space cadets like that a platform to have a voice. Let's go back to the days when they all gathered in a cult in the middle of nowhere and could be easily forgotten

It absolutely is a problem, you're right. It wasn't that long ago that things like QAnon only existed online, the issue now is that these things are spilling over into reality and influential people are either driving them or parroting them, which is encouraging people to do things they perhaps wouldn't have done if they hadn't been empowered. I know groups like IS and Generation Identity use social media to groom and recruit people, I don't think enough is done to police it.

I know there's a lot of people who consider Twitter banning people as a direct infringement of freedom of speech, but on the other side of the coin, given how gullible/angry some people can be, is it not worth filtering out those people if what they've got to say holds absolutely no factual merit at all?

David Icke has a lot to answer for in the modern world of social media. I always find it bizarre that the affable 80s sports guy went so batshit mental.

The problem I see with Twitter/FB/Instagram etc is they only ever seen to deal with things if it's the popular and fashionable thing to do. For example banning trump ( which is completely justifiable ) but allowing others who are just as bad if not worse to carry on posting hate/rubbish and insighting violence. There should be a blanket zero tolerance and instant permanent ban

Generation Identity are like a European National Front, they basically want Europe to be a white ethnostate and are worried about a "great replacement". They hold military style training camps across the continent.

IS is Islamic State, the ****s them.

QAnon started as a joke on a website called 4Chan (though most of their group don't actually know this, if they did, this would have died out long ago) , and some mugs took it seriously and now it's like a mini religion. Some random bloke (who looks like a proper nonce) who calls himself Q drops really vague clues that his followers have to decode, usually something about democrats or celebrities. Their core belief is that many Hollywood stars, liberal elite, Bill Gates, and indeed anybody who doesn't like Trump is a massive ***** involved in a worldwide child grooming network. Donald Trump has been sent to save the world from these awful people, which is why they are very cross he didn't win. QAnon recently used a hastag #savethechildren because they're convinced young people are going missing to have Adrenochrome drained from their bodies by Hillary Clinton, The Rock and other democratic supporting celebs, which led to people wanting to report actual child abuse not getting through because the lines were constantly clogged. They've even been found out kidnapping children to create the impression they went missing and then were saved by these Q people. It sounds ****ing stupid, because it is ****ing stupid, but it's now become incredibly dangerous and has been touted as a domestic terror threat in the US.

You're spot on, I think they should too, but I also think there's a worry that if they start banning people like that then people will get pissed off and abandon the platform. I'd rather have a million decent people using it than ten million ****ers like Paul Joseph Watson.

We are all allowed an opinion although some shouldn’t be given an audience. Not sure where I heard that but it has some mileage.

You can't use freedom of speech as an excuse when you get banned off twitter for being the human equivalent of bin juice.

When you sign up, there's this thing called 'terms and conditions' which kinda rules out the 'freedom' part of speech.

That's all well and good, provided it isn't applied with bias. A look at the set up seems to suggest a sub-agenda in the way the rules are applied.

There’s been plenty of fairly high profile Twitter bans in the past, mainly Muslim extremists and nazi nutters and none quite as high profile as the US President, but still applied for the same reason.
