    Johnson will know that his first signing will need to be a good one, so here's hoping that he's a great addition to the team.

    Hopefully Powers replacement and the first of a new look midfield come the end of the month. I would look to bring one more in who is more of an attacking midfielder and have a 3 of Winchester, O'nien when fit and A.N Other

    From an Oldham supporter:

    "Winchester was fantastic for Oldham when Johnson was in charge. If he can get back to that level you’ll have a great Midfielder."

    We’re also after this bloke.
    I think I heard correctly over a crackly radio although our ex manager Ross doesn’t want to let him go.
    Looks handy though.

    we have seen it all before, how a player seems to hit new levels with a certain manager but drop to 'average at best' when that manager leaves...Kone would be a good recent example i think when BSA went.

    @JHunterChron
    Lee Johnson: We are very close to one signing - the i's are dotted but the t's aren't crossed.
    Wouldn't name him, but says it's a midfielder.

    That'll be Carl Winchester from Forest Green. #safc

    @JHunterChron
    Johnson also says #safc are hopeful of making two or three signings in the January window

    @JHunterChron
    Lee Johnson: It's good news. It's the best case scenario on Will Grigg, the surgeon says the striker needs three weeks' rest - not the surgery and possible nine months that had been feared. #safc

    Never heard of Winchester, (other than the name of a western movie and a town down south) another midfielder, like the LB I heard about thought we had this position covered.
    Dump Grigg and Graham and bring in a couple of strikers otherwise we have no hope of salvaging this season.

    Still no news of takeover deal...

    Still it the 'Sunderland way!

    How does insurance work for players? If they get injured then the insurance pays out a sum or part of their wages? If either is the case can someone not go and stamp on the lazy bastard's poorly leg? We could have his wages off the books and him out the squad making space for someone who tries.
    I know it won't be as simple as that but I can but dream

    If Winchester is an 8 it is a good sign Johnson has spotted a problem in our team. We struggle to link the deeper players to the attacking 3 regularly. A technically good 8 who can get box to box will make a difference to the overall team quality in my view.

    This cropped up the other day mate. IIRC the premiums became prohibitively expensive so most clubs now only take insurance for career ending injury i believe.
    There is still compensation if a player is injured on international duty i understand
    This is based on an article i recall reading some years ago so given my memory and dotage I wouldn't take it as gospel just my recollection

    So what you're saying is we need a 25 stone fatty to do the jumping up and down on his injury?
