A bunch of raving cow men who all went home when it got dark is hardly the army you need for a coup imo. Never mind coup, I wouldn't even call it a riot, more a really severe case of civil disobedience. That does not make it an attempted coup, you need the army on board to be pulling that stunt and even then, unless you have most of them it will still fail. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, has already said the military do not get themselves involved in US domestic politics. I can't remember what nonsense Trump was spouting at the time but this speech was seen in some quarters as a response to him and it concerns just who it is that the us army makes an oath to, and it's not an individual, it's to the constitution. He pretty much hammers that point home.

I'm lucky mate, I don't trust any politicians, I think all the powers that be have their own self interest front and centre and don't give a flying **** for the likes of me. I just think any criticism that overplays a situation ends up undermining the credibility of those reporting it as it comes across as being a bit ridiculous. Coups are nasty, armed, voilent events that generally come with lots of planning, lots of participants from within the military, a heavy loss of life and a good chance of tilting a country into a civil war. Plenty of examples in history of this and while the USA has problems, as do all countries, what happened on Capitol Hill is nowhere near coup territory.
