Word around the campfire, in France, is that the Saudis have switched their attention to France and Marseille is seen as the most prominent club. They have a high profile, fanatical support and a history of European competition.

The current owner is known to be 'a seller' and the French league is keen to have money coming in so would nod through a bid for the club. They already have a state owned club, in PSG, so there's a precedent set.

Marseille has a high percentage of 'Arab' supporters and the city has a 'Riviera' glamour to it, albeit a busy working port and a slightly shady image.

There's been a hope among many supporters that Louis-Dreyfus would increase the stake in the club and take over, but their hopes have been dashed in that respect. We're 3 hours from Marseille, but there are lots of supporters here. This could become quite interesting.

I've started digging around for any media confirmation.

This came from the coach driver, for the film crew we had just before Christmas.

He's football mad and naturally had loads of downtime in between taking the people out to locations and back at night. So he listens to the French radio stations while he's sitting waiting on the coach.

I didn't pay it much attention but the Fedex man this morning, who had an OM badge on his jacket, was saying the same thing.

The date is interesting ...

... almost as if they were waiting for Louis-Dreyfus to make his statement.

" I know that the Saudis use the media extremely well to get people talking about them, even if they don't have too many interests in a club. So you have to be very careful with that.
However, what puts the chip in my ear is that I had this information concerning the search for investors by Didier Quillot, that OM was new put on sale following the break by Frank McCourt for part of the year 2020, and when I revive my Saudi informants who have had only good information this year, these sources have been keeping a low profile for a few weeks, and that puts the chip in my ear. I'm investigating, but I said that the day we stop giving out information and we are in a period of secret work, that means that things are really moving forward. So, I want to think that some investors and some people interested in OM are in this process of bidding, negotiations or negotiations, that it remains secret and that there is nothing that can leak . (…) It doesn't mean that it's reality, but it does mean that there are clues that lead us to think that…», Explains Thibaud Vézirian .

That's an auto-translate which I can't be arsed to correct, you'll get the picture.

Oh, that would be both glorious and hilarious. It could only be made better by an announcement from the US department of justice that Amanda Staveley is wanted as a material witness in the Jeffrey Epstein / Ghislane Maxwell case (she was Prince Andrew's girlfriend around then). And a follow up announcement ftpm HMRC would be the icing on the cake.

How about hoying in Mike Ashley in the New Year's honours list?

Still no pay day for Amanda, lost £17 million, hours of work and has nothing to show for it.

At least the mags still love her, they might even give her the freedom of the city if she fails for a third time....
