I genuinely give up with you. My argument is his Premier League goals for Newcastle United in the last year. They are the ones that matter to me. If you don't understand that then you really do have some mental issues!

He is an average player who could be easily replaced. Both the players you mentioned in your OP are better footballers than Best.

I agree they are better footballers. But would they be better goalscorers in the Premier League? As I stated in the OP I would have liked our strikers to be Ba, Best, Sigthorsson and Van Wolfswinkel.

Ignore him! Let him think Best is rubbish if he wants to. Who cares what other fans think.

We watch him week in week out and we know what he can do. His positioning, work rate, and finishing are all up to the standard you'd want from a solid PL striker, and he's getting better. That's why we like him, opposition fans can think what they want. end of.

Good points in response to mine by the way, although Maiga's attitude is "I really want to go to Newcastle to further my career".... I'm not gonna complain about that haha.

My worry is that he will be saying the same thing about wanting to go to a top 4 team a few years after joining us. But I would still happily have him. Any striker is better than Shola!

Given their age and their talent they were definitely worth the gamble ... but these clubs could have easily doubled their prices if we went in and nothing can guarantee that the players would have accepted the transfers even if a fee was agreed.
But what I'm disappointed about is that we didn't try to sign Park Chu Young who eventually signed for the Gunners. He's a talented Korean footballer who was playing for Monaco, when they were relegated last season and he's only 26 . Hope that we can get him on loan in January ...

True, but if the top 4 were interested, that would mean he'd done well for us and we could make a profit ... (Oh dear god I sound like Ashley)

Was about to suggest him. He's an excellent striker when he plays regularly but he's had a difficult time at Spurs.

He scores a lot of his goals against the big teams, his goal against Chelsea last season, beating Terry with one touch and burying it in the corner past Cech was brilliant. The technique on his goal against Bolton with his supposedly weaker foot is just superb.

He does show a bit of attitude from time to time but it hasn't been helped by 'Arry dropping him a lot and playing up front on his own not being his strong point. The fans all loved him but from his shows so far this season it looks like his time at Spurs is coming to an end. To be honest I don't think you could do any better, he's a top drawer player, proven in the PL with an excellent touch and shot.

The goals I mentioned are the first and last in this video.. apologies for the music.

Mario Gomez is classed as one of the best strikers in the world at the moment. And most of his goals are tap-ins..

Best is no Gomez, but he gets goals and that's a strikers job!!

There is absolutely no chance of us signing Pavlyuchenko because of his age. 0%. none. nothing. It's a non-starter. The striker we sign will be 26 or younger without doubt.

Yeah, agree with you there. Can't argue with his scoring record and he plays in one the toughest league in the world.

    WHAT?! <yikes>

Boooo! What a load of rubbish!!!

that Derby seanDCFC fan cracks me up <laugh> We watch our own player week in week out, yet he still feels he has some sort of valuable insight on Best that we lack! From what he's seen 4 years ago!

    What a mug <laugh>

And the fact is, a very high % of players would want to go to the top 4 if they were interested; just because Sochaux made a big media mess of our bid doesn't make Maiga's attitude any different than the rest of the players who get bought from weaker leagues.
