I think I am saying it survives longer..
More resilient to being outside the body.
I don't think it can fly per say. It is propelled in your direction by breathing, coughing, sneezing etc...
Or left on surfaces similarly or by sweat from hands etc.

Wales is saying that the new variant is all over Wales too. It has been wandering about longer than we have thought.
I think this has all been picked up by a new PCR test that was introduced over the summer..and now seems to be working quite well. It was in answer to the criticism, that you must do the test more than once, to avoid false positives. So each sample is now subjected to three similar PCR tests...against different parts of the virus.. All 3 should be positive, for the result to be declared positive. Over the summer, one of the three tests started to fail to work...but the other two remained positive..
That is how the variant was detected

Food shopping this morning no problem whatsoever.
    Plenty of everything.
    No sign of panic.

It doesn't help when supermarkets say there may be shortages of fresh fruit and veg due to ports closure, Sainsbury's on social media this morning guaranteeing there would be a rush, my local one queueing all round car park in the rain. Got everything in already but a tip from me is try local greengrocers, their produce is often better, fresher and cheaper...

What? You don't mean the ones who slagged Boris off for opting out? Perish the thought... <laugh>

I’m not sure why multiple posters need to cry about not being allowed to post stuff that is anti-EU. Clearly anyone can and those same people have been for months if not years.

BBC news showing footage of empty shelves from early in the pandemic, saying ‘it could get like this’. Jesus ****.

Everything seems to be heightened now that London and the South East is the centre of the news. As a Londoner in exile I’m slightly ashamed to say that there is an element of Schadenfreude from those of us who live elsewhere.
    Ssssh, leave them be, poppets.

Sainsbury's actually confirmed that all stock for Xmas was already in their distribution network

I shall panic about not being able to get my Spanish sun dried tomatoes after I've eaten my body weight in chocolate over the weekend....

Sadly, when a thing affects London it's the only news. What amazes me is the news has been heading for this for a few weeks now and suddenly it's panic stations. We bought 90% of non-perishables last week leaving very little to get this week but it seems many are now in a flap, I can't work out the mentality of some...

Same here. Mrs went out to get a few Christmas bits and said there was plenty of stock ( just a little busier than normal) no panic buying.
The statement from Sainsbury’s was welcomed.

Sainsbury also said (although not mentioned much on news) was if there are future problems they will source elsewhere.
Without being political it is disgusting that 90% of lettuce comes from the EU. We need to become more self sufficient and start growing again just in case there are any more future virus problems and the French stop lorries.

FWIW the big retailers are working on the assumption the vast majority of ‘big’ shops will be between tomorrow and Wednesday so today is probably a sensible day to get out there if you can. Stupidly obvious probably given Christmas is on a Friday.

You really need to up your game then. Ask Redwood to drop some herring round when he’s done patrolling the coast.
