Seems as though every country is **** scared of this new variant overwhelming health services very quickly, meaning that the easing of restrictions over Christmas had to be abandoned.
It's happening all over the UK and I'm not sure anyone could have foreseen this new variant when putting the Christmas plans in place.

The government had been advised by 'the science' that the Christmas relaxation was wrong well before the new strain was identified. Johnson wanted to play Santa Claus but he got stuck in the chimney.

    Point missed.
Had there not been the new variant, Christmas plans wouldn't have been changed.
Wales and Scotland are doing the same.
I never agreed with the Christmas relaxation, but they couldn't have foreseen this new variant, meaning people's plans being spoiled.

The decisions regarding Christmas were made before this new strain was detected. Trying to connect is Just a desperate attempt to blame the government.

Point missed. The 'new variant' is an excuse to put right what he already knew to be wrong, but was too weak to change.

When do you reckon they knew about it? Before this happened?

Hopefully not as much as four days ago when Gavin Williamson was threatening to sue schools that wished to close.

Mr Hindsight doesn’t have a say as his party abstained from votes.
Right time for me to watch ‘fantasy Island’.

**** me! Where are your bollocks?

What's happened to the good old British spirit? The British politicians, the main stream media and sage. I hope will be banned from all pubs, hospitality, shops and restaurants when this ends ( if it ever does. ) The ****s who voted for all this deserve to be banged up! Hopefully hung as this is similar to the Nuremburg trials. Johnson, Hancock, Whitty, Vallance, Ferguson and others ... I hope they swing. Their necks snapped by the large knotted noose.

The Labour and all other political parties are complacent, they other no challenge. Alarm bells should be ringing!

Here are some simple questions Matt Hancock has to answer ...

    • Why did he announce this as a new strain on the eve of the tier review when it appears to have been circulating for several months (and may have existed for months more before it was identified)?
    • Why has he made headlines with the news that it’s more infectious when the experts who identified the strain say that we don‘t have evidence for that yet?
    • Will he publish the evidence he has for that so his claims can be independently verified?
    • In the words of the Washington Post, “At a news conference Monday evening, neither Hancock nor England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, released enough data to help the public understand the significance of the new variant.” Does he now regret the way that this announcement was handled, given that it has attracted international criticism?
    • With millions of lives and livelihoods at stake, does he now consider that the statement he made to Parliament about the ‘new’ strain may have been misleading?
    • Does he retain confidence in the Government advisers who briefed him on it?
    • With even the experts at the World Health Organisation who are responsible for tackling the virus apparently confused by the information that the DHSC has provided over the details of the ‘new’ strain, will he remind his department to prioritise accuracy and the clear communication of the known facts over sensationalist language that makes headlines?

People are not adhering to rules, hence the spread of the virus. The rules are different all over the country. 500 yards split tier 3 and tier 2 from my house, with nothing but a petrol station in between. These tier systems are quite ridiculous in my opinion. Schools, as I queried long ago, have played a major role in the spread of the virus. My sons year had 21 pupils out of over 200 in school last week. We seem to react a little later than everyone else or at least announce our intentions later. The trust has long gone in this government and that has instigated in lots and lots of people not bothering to listen to them. All we can do is try our best, individually and as family units to stay safe. It's pointless relying on the government or even on other members of the public. Do what's right for you.

And we think we've got fruitcakes as leaders....

COVID-19 vaccine may turn people into 'crocodile': Brazilian President Bolsonaro

Bolsonaro criticised pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. In the Pfizer contract it's very clear: 'we're not responsible for any side effects'. If you turn into a crocodile, it's your problem, said Bolsonaro

Bolsonaro criticised pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. He stated on Thursday, "In the Pfizer contract it's very clear: 'we're not responsible for any side effects'. If you turn into a crocodile, it's your problem,"

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been undergoing trials in Brazil for weeks. The vaccine has already been administered to some people in the United States and the United Kingdom.

"If you become superhuman, if a woman starts to grow a beard or if a man starts to speak with an effeminate voice, they will not have anything to do with it," Bolsonaro said, while taking about vaccine manufacturers.

What has happened to Lisa Nandy! She used to be quite decent to listen to. Now she has been turned in a 'Stepford wife' driod of Captain Hindsight.
After todays interview she really needs to take a good look at herself. When you take away all the "government failings, differing, Boris, Tory, Confusion" Crap that she was spouting there is nothing left of her.
She said to Andrew Marr 'we have the most Covid deaths in Europe' for him to say "that's not true, Spain and Italy have higher numbers" only for her to look gormless at the camera with sparks coming out of her ears to the say "this incompetent government" <doh> actually after her interview <doh><doh>
I am also glad Dr Hopkins cleared something up as well. No doubt she will be accused of being a government stooge by our resident experts.

I’m talking about the fact that someone from the shadow cabinet can’t even give correct information regarding Covid deaths.... unless you want to agree with her comments? Please enlighten us?

The country is on fire and we are the laughing stock of the entire world so I don’t really care what Lisa Nandy has to say as she’s not in a position to actually do anything.

Not that it really matters as regardless we are a shambles in our own right but we aren’t ahead of Spain so unsurprisingly Marr is wrong too.

The above assumes your post is an accurate account of their interview.

COVID-19 situation update worldwide, as of week 50 2020

    Europe: 480 572 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are Italy (64 520), United Kingdom (64 170), France (57 911), Spain (48 013) and Russia (46 941).

    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/geographical-distribution-2019-ncov-cases

So, slightly better off than Italy, miles worse than Spain.

Tbh I didn’t think we were ahead of Spain as I posted on Friday discussing Italy and how France had crept up on us. I took Marr at his word. I will listen again but I am sure he said Spain.
As for your comments about the opposition... if they are not important they should shut up, stop playing Politics with peoples lives and rather than sit on a fence and say nothing until something goes wrong, they should have the balls to commit to something.
