A large proportion of London don't celebrate Christmas anyway do they?

The largest proportion of London is Christian, according to the last census. To be fair, that was 2011, so the dynamic has changed a bit.

Which I found pretty shocking, because the second highest is atheism and I was rather hoping that would have been the bigger number. Be interesting to see what it is at the next one.

Other religions do celebrate Christmas in their own way, it's just not a main holy day for them. Sikhs, for example.

And they'll all be breaking the law? I thought it started midnight tonight. What they do need to do is clarify quickly exactly which bits of the S East, London, and East of England are going into tier 4.

Well that's this lot knackered then, isn't it?

Parliamentary review of the act every 6 months, or something like that? Still, legislation that gives the head of government supreme executive authority to shut down the country whenever they want without a state of emergency is dodgy. Not to get too political but I think the Leader of the Opposition's most-said phrase since becoming leader has been 'I support the government'. Rule by decree is not healthy for any so-called democracy.
The leader of the opposition has done nothing but criticise the Government throughout this whole sorry episode....As has Himmler up here!!!

Germany is using shipping containers for storing the victims as they don't have the available resources. I think the UK media need to have a long hard look at how they have portrayed events. Once again, they've been found wanting at a time when people are in need of good information.

When they reported how bad it was in Italy early in the year the media was accused of scare mongering whilst people said it was fake news, there was no pandemic, it was no worse than the flu, it would be all over in a couple of weeks...
Sweden, the country we were told was giving a lesson on how to handle things is now having to change course and is considering asking neighbours countries to take sick people into their hospitals as Sweden's health system can't cope.

An act of parliament that gives the Prime Minister dictatorial executive powers without a state of emergency being formally declared sets an extremely dangerous precedent.

Yes, I am going to have trouble sleeping thinking about that...

Reckon there'll be an awful lot of pissed up people driving their cars home at the end of Xmas day.

He's bad-mouthed them for their incompetence, just like most people (I dare say even most Tory voters have criticised them too) but when push comes to shove, he's voted and vocally supported all of the government's legislation. He's even supported the legislation that gives the PM unprecedented executive powers in peacetime. Not really 'opposition', is it? He's wet as ****.

They've already released the list, it's all of London, most of Essex and Kent and various other places.

The nearest he came to offering an alternative, was a system very much like the one applied in Wales, and look how that worked out. London was the other area that pushed against Government advice.

Yes, I am going to have trouble sleeping thinking about that...

Yeah, I quite like constitutional checks and balances on the executive and legislative branches of government rather than have a Prime Minister rule by decree like some 19th century Russian Tsar.

I'm not sure how to word this, and I'm not meaning this as a personal pop, it's just that your post is here as an example, but most people will have done what amounts to a risk assessment for family visits, and that risk has only changed in that there is the added risk of being asked to disperse by a policeman or face a fine.

It seems to suggest that the fear of a fine is greater than the fear of the virus.
I know what you mean.

My British pal who works in Sweden has said that its going very wrong there. The King has made an address blasting the countries failed coronavirus strategy....

Must say that has ****ed up plans.

Daughter was coming for few days and Granddaughter for her birthday on Christmas Eve...:emoticon-0106-cryin
Will you now cancel your plans Dennis? I have a similar issue in that my wife has invited our immediate family round on the 23rd(as she,my wife, has to work on Xmas day, she's a care worker).Upshot is we will carry on with our plan because the 23rd has been put in place to substitute Xmas day itself. This night not fit in to the Scottish Governments revised plan but to be honest...I couldn't care in the slightest.

I don't understand why the period of relaxing restrictions over Christmas has been reduced to solely Christmas Day just because London and the south east have been put in tier 4. So, because ****ers down south took the piss when they were in tier 2, Northerners who've been in tier 3 for at least 3 weeks are being punished despite the R-rate dropping below 1.0 in large parts of the North?
