Studies have also shown that calcium from plant based sources is poorer quality and harder to absorb, meaning vegans are more likely to be deficient in calcium than non-vegans. People can pick and choose studies to suit their argument, nutritional studies are notoriously biased and flawed.

Most of the major contributors to ill health are vegan such as alcohol, tobacco, sugar, salt and refined vegetable oils / syrups, these account for the majority of obesity, strokes, heart disease, cancer, diabetes...etc. The link between animal specific fat and heart disease has long been debunked whilst the links between meat and cancer are tenuous at best and even then only pose a similar risk to certain widespread pesticides used on vegetables.

A balanced diet high in unprocessed, natural foods is the answer, there's no reason to exclude anything for any reason other than personal preference.

Don't get me started on the hypocrisy involved in the compassion / environmental arguments!
Do you have a link to those studies?

I’m sure there’ll be another site that says the opposite, there usually is.
I went vegan on a bit of a whim really, I only really planned to do it for a week.
Really wished I’d had all my bloods done before though, while I ate meat etc.
Had them done about 10 months after being vegan and (I do take B12, but so should meat eaters) every single one was bang on perfect. Feel healthier and no heartburn etc.

as you say studies often say different things. Very often they coincidently say things that are positive to the people that fund them!

Certainly don't want to get anyone started but what's hypocritical about choosing not to eat meat because you'd rather not be party to animal suffering?

Is it the case that we should try to increase animal suffering?

If so, fine.

Then I'd have happily kicked the dog at four o'clock this morning when he woke me up, crying to be let out, even though I know that he didn't need a wee but just wanted to bark at cats.

The **** him.

Is it okay to be vegan, if your only reason is to starve animals?
