Not sure whether it’s right but rumour had it he first met Morecambe and Wise in Hull

Appeared on the Buddy Holly tour and first Beatles tour. Had a no 1 hit single, recorded 36 albums.
Appeared at the Palladium over 1,000 times. Not many will have careers like that.
Who can forget, if they are old enough, the DJ at Liverpool putting his hit Careless Hands on as the teams left the pitch at Anfield after Sprake had thrown the ball into his own net? Purely coincidental it was claimed.<laugh>

i adored morecambe & wise - they were essential for xmas, and eric was always like your daft uncle, but des's music was a ton better than eric's novel.

WHEN Des O’Connor heard that Eric Morecambe had suffered a heart attack in the late Seventies he stopped the show he was appearing in and asked the entire audience to pray for him.
The recovering Eric later heard about the gesture and offered his thanks. “It was the prayers of those six or seven people that made all the difference,’’ he quipped.
<laugh><laugh><laugh>

When someone asked Eric Morecambe if he had a criminal record he always referred to Des.
Des did Countdown for a short stint, taking over from the other Des. He was good.
RIP Des
