In January 2018, it was announced that Semedo would stand trial for an altercation in a bar in Valencia the previous November, when the player allegedly brandished a pistol and made threats while he was nursing an injury.[27][28] He was arrested again for a separate incident on 20 February, this time for allegedly tying up and assaulting a man in his home alongside two others, then going to the victim's house to burgle it.[29] For the latter incident, he was charged with attempted murder and placed in preventive detention.[30]

On 13 July 2018, Semedo was released from prison after paying bail of 30,000.[31] Facing a maximum 151⁄2-year sentence, he confessed two years later to kidnap, robbery, wounding and illegal firearm possession; he was fined €46,000 and banned from entering Spain for the next eight years.

How the **** is he still a pro footballer? Any other profession wouldn’t stand a chance to gets job

Not shooting the messenger btw :)
Probably more the hack than Nicol.
"Steve Nicol has told former club Liverpool"
As if...
How often do we see similar? It's this form of journalese that irritates rather than the actual content.

MITO - agree, we haven't got a choice but to utilise Nat Philips and Rhys Williams, and they have an opportunity to step up (to Jan 1st at least).

But even before we had the injuries, we needed:

- a CB to replace Lovren
- a CB who can consistently partner VVD because Gomez and Matip are physically unreliable.
- a CB who can rotate with VVD so that he isn't overplayed

This doesn't mean we need 3 separate CBs but it's to highlight that there was always a need for a new CB. Losing VVD alone has had a domino effect on the rest of the team:

- Fabinho was playing in midfield then had to play at CB, and pulled up because he was overplayed
- Gomez suffered a serious injury which could have been prevented if he hadn't been overplayed
- I think Matip came on in the Everton match to replace VVD and then was injured after the game
- We then use Rhys / Nat which meant Klopp didn't want to rest Trent, and then Trent pulls up with an injury.

By the sounds of it, Konate (from Leipzig) is our number 1 CB target. I've only seen a few games but he definitely ticks a lot of boxes:

- Decent on the ball
- Very good in the air (crucial)
- wins a lot of duels
- He's 6 ft 4
- 21 years old

The major issue around him is that he suffered a major hip injury a couple of years back and he pretty much missed the whole of the 18/19 season. He since came back and suffered more niggly injures. Would be a risk for LFC to go for him until he has proven he is fully over that injury.

Sure whatever you like, but we got you tsimikas, thiago and jota. All for 22mil up front.

If and when the right player is available we will get the right player, until then be satisfied we have options in midfield, up front and at LB.

the list of requirements above reads like you want a bullet proof, "worlds greatest" CB who can play both left and right side. The short list is very short indeed.

and yes there is a list :)

forget it.

the minute you hear hip with a footballer their career is measured in very few years. Footballers simply don't come back fully ever from hip injuries.

yup.

people thought 45mil for jota was madness too until.

oh right. hes brilliant moment went off.

same for.wijanludm..why buy a crap left winger from a relegated side for 25mil.

same for that chelsea reject.

the only player we probably over paid for was ox tbh.
"Naby lad" ... +50m

Fukin useless. No no. worse... He's been non existent.

The shortlist isn't that short - but it will be expensive and at a premium... I'm sorry but you cannot expect us to go the rest of the season relying on one senior centre back who is the most error prone player at the club. That's far too risky.

you want someone to replace the world's greatest cb, who can play either side and be fully fit 100% of the time.

and you think there's a long list of those out there.

you've no option but to for 2 months so come back in january with this debate. give the guys who have the opportunity the chace to grab it before wasting 50million.

who knows nat phillips might be as good as ben white.

Rhys williams might indeed by VVD's younger, skinnier, sicklier love child. who knows.

the evidence is there for all in this approach. 2017/18 trent and gomez shared the role as clyne sniffed his way to oblivion.

People cried for a senior RB then too, we actually brought on two young players really well. We finished 4th, reached CL final and improved the squad following that but never splashed on an RB.

we went on to win two trophies and have record points hauls for the club, just maybe someone can grab a chance now, lets at least give them the 6/8 weeks they have to prove themselves before splashing the cash.

As I said if the right one is available klopp will do the right thing. If there is not the right one he won't waste his time.

(1) We need 1 defender to be able to be fully fit most of the time and provide reliability
(2) We need 2 defenders to be able to provide cover, reliability and consistent competition

Gomez has always been eased into the team, whilst Trent is a generational talent. Rhys and Nat could do the same but they will thrust into the action. It's a lot of pressure on them.

Fortunately for both Trent and Joe, they had the luxury of playing alongside the likes of VVD, Alison behind them, Fabinho ahead of them. Rhys and Nat won't have that.

And no one is saying that we have to go out and buy a defender right this very season - we're all well aware that we have to wait until Jan. But you cannot seriously tell me that the club are happy to gamble the defence on a single senior centre back until the end of the season.
