Always difficult to get value for money in January transfer business, with the exception of some like Luis Suarez.
Under normal circumstances, I would agree. But we've lost our two starting CB's for the entire season, and our last senior CB is injury prone as well. We're most likely going to play a large portion of games with no recognised / senior CBs. Playing Fabinho there means we weaken our midfield because he's our best DM, and he's not a natural CB. Rhy and Nat are not at the required level either but are good to play every now and again.
but maybe one person steps up and takes the next 6 weeks to prove themselves capable of being that 4th option. If you've 2 players coming back the conversation should be about the longer term scenario not about jan 1 to march 1. If klopp sees matip and gomez as unreliable then let him go buy, be it january or summer depending on the one he wants. If he is happy with his 3 let him on. IMO Williams has a great free go here with zero pressure in the CL. we almost cannot fail to qualify. another win and its 100% assured. he has the cushion of 3 games to really have a go and show what he can do. Phillips will want to have a go but it reamins to be seen if klopp backs him for the short term. I think he will as it'd be better to see fabinho at no 6.
but we've not lost them for that long. Give the boys there a chance. You've no option but to do this til jan 1 so why bleat at us about it until then Put some time in my calendar for January 1 for this topic of transfers.
after lots of therapy I’ve managed to overcome my demons and post on this board again nice to see you big boy
yup. people thought 45mil for jota was madness too until. oh right. hes brilliant moment went off. same for.wijanludm..why buy a crap left winger from a relegated side for 25mil. same for that chelsea reject. the only player we probably over paid for was ox tbh.
Don't you dare talk about ox that way. Only joking, I agree with you. We could panic and sound a lot of money on 2 cbs to last 3 months, but what happens when virgil and Joe are back. As a club we can see its not a season by season approach, you need a long term view. Do you piss away our transfer budget to try and get something this season, or hold off and carry on building steady like we have been doing?
But Matip won’t be here much longer and if he is you can’t rely on him being available with injury record no matter how good he’s been. All top sides need 4 able centre backs. Maybe the 4th could be someone that can do a mixture, cb and full back or DM but we def needed one anyway.
Are there any clubs with four quality CBs atm? CBs are hard to come by in current times. I'd rather put trust in a youngster like Williams or Nat (just a youngster still at 23) than have a Lovren or Klavan
If klopp has one in mind go get them. If the funds are there with covid as we spent the blog on the never never last summer. If they are not then make do til summer We all know Phillips is a basic player with a bit of height but he will give his all to do the job. Back him. Give rhys Williams the games to develop a bit as s young man and frankly it's only 3 years or so since taa and gomez shared rb and people were on about buying. Develop these boys now.

Liverpool are ready to make an offer to Olympiakos for Portuguese defender Ruben Semedo, 26, to cover for the injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. (Sic Noticias, via Express)
Haha...that lad was arrested for attempted murder wasn’t he? must be just to play in the Everton home game
In January 2018, it was announced that Semedo would stand trial for an altercation in a bar in Valencia the previous November, when the player allegedly brandished a pistol and made threats while he was nursing an injury.[27][28] He was arrested again for a separate incident on 20 February, this time for allegedly tying up and assaulting a man in his home alongside two others, then going to the victim's house to burgle it.[29] For the latter incident, he was charged with attempted murder and placed in preventive detention.[30] On 13 July 2018, Semedo was released from prison after paying bail of €30,000.[31] Facing a maximum 151⁄2-year sentence, he confessed two years later to kidnap, robbery, wounding and illegal firearm possession; he was fined €46,000 and banned from entering Spain for the next eight years.
