Under normal circumstances I would have gone to this one but thanks to covid I can't, which is good because it's a bit of a dump.

Swindon Town is the only club in the football league whose name doesn't contain any of the letters in the word 'mackerel'.

Swindon is twinned with Walt Disney World.

‘Oasis’ took their name from the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon.

James Bond was shot twice in Swindon.

Ian Fleming is buried in St James Church.

It was referred to as Suindune (in the Domesday Book) meaning ‘Pig Hill, and later ‘Swine Town’ ’ as the town used to be swarming with pigs.

Virgin Airways famous red-lady emblem was created by Ken White, Swindon's home grown mural man.

The Bodleian Library's book depository, contains 153 miles (246 km) of bookshelves.

Smashie and Nicey radio show was broadcasted in Swindon.

In December-January 2009/10 Billy Paynter scored in seven consecutive League games for Swindon

    What was he doing there?

I must be 'some' then, cos I'll only be satisfied when we are back where we were before McCann took over

They used the old Renault parts warehouse and the Motorola factory but of course in the films they were supposed to be more exotic locations. Pierce Brosnan is reported in the local paper as saying he had wanted to visit Swindon for years which shows they have no concept of sarcasm

It was a joke. Like, what was international spy James doing in Swindon to end up being shot not once but twice.
The famous scene racing around on ice in Die Another Day was largely shot on the car park at Bourton On The Water with the rest added with the wonders of CGI. I was there three or four years ago and wondered why coachfuls of Japanese tourists were getting off coaches and filming what is now the coach park for a large new Coop car park.

The firm I worked for at that time made all the phoney ice backgrounds out of plastic, it was a big contract.

Lovely place Bourton On .The Water. Hard to associate that car park with the final scenes in the film.

True. But that is what enables a place with about 4,000 residents to have 5 decent pubs, a few excellent restaurants and loads of other places to eat. Wouldn't mind living there, in some of the finer places, and just venturing out when all the day trippers have departed. All 8t would take is 6 numbers to get one of the places I would like there.

Yes you'd need the 6 numbers, of those Cotswold places I think I prefer Broadway to Bourton, just feels a bit more airy to me. But to get back on topic I prefer both of them and lots of others to Swindon...
