If they want to change the number of teams in the top flight from 20 to 18 then there are arguments for and against. I'm ok with that, though against it I can see that it's not a straight forward thing. If they want to change promotion and relegation then again there's pro's and con's. If they want to change how payments are made and what those payments are to clubs who get relegated well they've always been controversial anyway so there's a fair debate to be had. If they want to try and push through a power grab then I'm hugely against it but it's up to the league to vote on it. If it goes through it'll probably personally be the final nail in the coffin of a professional sport I'm proud to say my children have no real interest in (they support Liverpool, but not really) and I suspect I can just ebb it out of my consciousness. If they want to put all these changes together in a proposal that lower league clubs NEED and wrap it up in an altruistic bow for the press then they are a self-serving bunch of massive, despicable c*nts. #integrity
Lots seem to be quite upset by this. The little Clubs are broke. Prem clubs want to save them. But somehow the game is gonna die/vanish because of it. As long as its on TV I don't mind.
They haven't ruled it out mind.. They've just said they don't like the idea while dating trying to find solutions and aren't happy they've been grassed up. That's how I read the statement anyway.
Personally I'm not upset by it, as far as I'm concerned, the Prem can do one. I'll take the consequences of what that might possibly mean for my club, and I'm sure as supporters we will do what we can to help our club. But I'm not putting any begging bowl out to the Prem or accepting any of their conditions. It's much like Comm's charity booze thing, you either want to stick your hand in your pocket and help a bigger cause or you don't. What I would never do is bow down to some opportunistic agenda. I've never made a big secret of hating the Premier League, nothing has changed that, my view on it, it's only made it more damning.
Don’t forget who the PL actually are mate. It’s not a stand alone organisation, it’s merely a collective of the 20 clubs. For them to issue that statement they’ve reacted to the words of the other 18. What the RS, United and Rick Parry have done here is snide, they’ve patently not discussed these proposals in the forum of the PL meetings and the statement is merely a reflection on the collective opinion of their actions. It basically calls them ****s.
I dunno mate but that sounds a lot more fair. End of the day why does the prem have to bail out the lower league clubs? They don't imo so this gesture of goodwill should be welcomed by supporters of those clubs rather than looked at with paranoia and let's have it right... jealousy.
It's not paranoia and jealousy it's clearly anti-competitive. Why should the top 6 get a say on who owns Newcastle or Southampton? Giving 6 clubs such power is a terrible thing all round, and is just making it even more of a closed shop than what it already is with financial regulations that are in place. Don't see any way that 9 clubs getting votes instead of 20 can be seen as more fair.
A quick reminder that a few years ago Liverpool were on the brink of complete financial collapse and would be in the exact same spot as some of these lower league clubs. What would the reaction be then? Imagine if the top 3 of Chelsea, United and Arsenal had veto'd the Liverpool takeover
You mean when the bank foreclosed on their owners and literally took over the running of the club, which in any ordinary circumstances would be classed as administration and resulted in a points deductions. That? Noted that Rick Parry the errrmm Kopite, former RS CEO and the current chair of the EFL has been instrumental in this snide action btw. Purely coincidental obvs.
Well its like a private gentlemans club init, you think the league would benefit from another oil club or Abramovich? And although I don't agree with the top 6 having all the power, that's not really my issue. My point is youve got lower league teams getting a much needed handout from the prem. Take it, say thanks and Stfu imo, ungrateful ****s.
I suspect the lower league teams will take it tbh. It's the rest of the PL which will be the struggle.
