Another great NHS COVID app feature - if you live in a semi detached or terraced house it has been found that it could tell you that you have been in close contact with your neighbour for many, many hours. Don’t let your partner see! Of course the virus can probably get you through walls, so it’s great design. Soon we will be told to self isolate in detached homes only, and, if you don’t have one of those, a tent in a field.

I downloaded the app purely because I was told I couldn’t use the gym with out using it.
I can.......I don’t have to.....no one does.

I'm no defender of the app, but this is a limitation of the technology in use. Bluetooth generally has a range of between 5 and 10 metres, and works well through brick (not so good through metal though), so it's no surprise. You could probably get notified of close contacts if you're stuck in traffic on the M25 too!
To be fair, Apple and Google did say at launch it would give false readings a third of the time because of the limitations of Bluetooth. Which is a bit more than a limitation from where I sit.
Jonathan Van Tam, who once, what seems like a lifetime ago, had a glimmer of credibility, but now associates with ****wits and crooks, has been busy aligning the science with what passes for imminent policy, by warning/threatening us all with ‘we are at a tipping point, and deaths will follow the rise in infections as sure as night follows day’, so pubs and restaurants can be closed in lots of places sometime this week.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock was last night accused of breaking his own Covid curfew by drinking in a Commons bar beyond 10pm – where he made a crass joke about the Government's test and trace failings.
Mr Hancock arrived at the bar just before a 9.40pm vote, ordered a glass of white wine and announced: 'The drinks are on me – but Public Health England are in charge of the payment methodology so I will not be paying anything.'
His ill-conceived joke came after he had tried to explain to the Commons why the quango had lost nearly 16,000 positive coronavirus tests – a fiasco which Labour claimed had put 'lives at risk'.

I’d rather he went due to his shambolic work as Health Secretary costing thousands of lives but if this gets it over the line then so be it. Plus he’s just a very weird bloke.
0nly 20% of people that should self isolate do so according to the news last night. And people wonder why infection rates are going up? It just comes down to respect or in 80% of cases... Lack of respect.
I agree with that but would also highlight the flawed system that instructs these people to do so. The amount of cases I'm personally hearing about self isolation is ridiculous. My own mother yesterday got a ping telling her she's been near/in contact with a positive person. She hasnt been out of the house for 5 weeks after recovering from an aneurysm.
It all comes back to an effective test and trace system. Its our only realistic weapon at the moment. We were promised back in june (I think), a world beating system to help get back to some sort of life. We are now in October and that said system is stil not working properley. Is it the peoples fault for not following instructions? Trust has evaporated. Maybe people would follow them if they knew the system worked, trusted the info they were told and also didnt hear stories like the Hancock one today.

For once I will say that you are pretty much spot on with that. I sort of agree with the Tory commentator who last night said that people are now not listening to the government. He said it started with Cummings eye test followed by mistakes with T&T and lockdown measures. The people are fatigued with it all. You yourself said nothing will stop you visiting family at Christmas. If people have lost confidence in the government handelling then they need some new solutions.
