Was just about to say I’d only just seen your post from earlier mate (I was asleep when you posted it) Makes sense
I hope you feel better in time for your trip to Inverness Strolls. Congratulations on achieving forty years of marriage and I hope your time away is a great one. Top Tip ... Buy yourself a few hip flasks and top them up with your favourite tipple. How are you getting up there?
Thanks mate. We're going by train, daytime going up and sleeper coming home. Hip flasks are a good idea. They can't ban them, can they?
No, they can't. You can't buy alcohol in a bar, restaurant, or cafe. I think? You can buy drink on the train though. Myself and the Mrs were planning on doing a train trip up to Edinburgh on the sleeper until the virus struck.
Blimey that's saying something considering he's one of the world's oddest looking men at the best of times.
I don't know what the rules are really, I don't suppose anyone does - and if they think they do, they'll have changed again, anyway. Contrary to the impression I may give to some, I'm not desperate for alcohol at all hours of the day and night, but being denied access to it for no good reason enrages me (more so than I can really defend, I suppose). The 10pm curfew not only has no beneficial effect, it's actively damaging as regards social distancing, and denying alcohol to people eating a meal is just bizarre and can have no logical merit. Remember people going to weird lengths to avoid getting within six feet of one another in the street? I reckon more people were killed by getting hit by cars after stepping into the road than died of pavement-contracted Covid. Remember all the outrage at 'selfish' people going to parks and beaches? Also ridiculous, the chances of contracting the virus in outdoor situations are 'vanishingly small' we are now told. So now it's places where alcohol is served that must be held to blame, despite the fact that they've gone to great lengths (and expense) to follow the government's own guidelines to make themselves safe. There must always be someone to blame.
I know, it's really confusing isn't it? Have a read through this article, hopefully it will clear things up. https://capx.co/in-the-age-of-covid-the-law-is-a-thug/
Very good. People need to be able to understand the laws, but they also need to understand the reason for them and to believe that they will have some beneficial effect. A lot of the rules we are currently being expected to live by are just arbitrary restrictions with no demonstrable efficacy.
Good for testing system in Newcastle, daughter got her result in 18 hours, she is the only one to test positive in addition to the girl that kicked off the whole saga, though they think that another housemate has already had it. She is delighted, no symptoms and they reckon she could only have picked it up on the sole household visit to the pub last Saturday, so well into incubation period, to my amazement they really have only been out the once apart from food shopping. So she is released 4 days earlier than the negative testers, and we will feel comfortable with her seeing my 81 year old Mum at Christmas. Of course, as a dad, there is a lingering nervousness.......
Senior doctors warning of an ‘implosion’ of the NHS this winter if COVID hospitalisations continue to rise. In the North West it’s predicted that the number of people hospitalised with it will equal the April peak within 3 weeks. But hold on, wasn’t the NHS’ handling of the original wave of cases a total triumph? Only 60,000 more deaths than usual and 90 (ninety) times the number of people waiting for medical treatment now than at the same time last year. I’m confident that, as long as we continue to protect the NHS above all other priorities, they can easily exceed these numbers over the next few months. Sorry for the excess sarcasm, but I’m getting pissed off with these shroud wavers. Have they done nothing to improve the NHS’ fitness for purpose over the last few months? Running short of sympathy and trust.
Seems like the way forward - get large groups of young people together in confined areas and let the virus spread among them so that they are all immune before they're released back into the community. Why is London currently lagging behind the North in new infections? Because so many people in London have already had the virus. Herd immunity.
Herd immunity! I mentioned that when this all kick off months ago and many on here disagreed... now it's the way to go? On another note, it's bloody sad seeing many people suffering from loneliness and depression during all this cr2p. I have just seen a heartbreaking report. (so bloody sad). We need to take a moment to reflect and check up on our friends. I have a mate who is really down because of all this and I always make sure I call him and try and cheer him up.
