Yes. Koeman was letting his gob go about Gini signing a new contract while still a Liverpool player. They used to call it tapping up, did they not

It's the manager signing players he knows well scenario. Some managers like to seek out players they've already managed, sometimes signing the same player multiple times. Is that a good strategy? Any good examples?

Carvalho - followed Mourino to Chelsea

as a debating point i'll chuck out Fellaini following Moyes to ManU . I think their is a case that he ended up being one of their more effective players over the next few years .

Carvalho is a good example. Not sure on Fellaini. I just read up on him and his transfer to utd was in the 10 Worst Buys of the Season list. The following season Moyes left so I don't think that qualifies as a successful player/manager reunion.

your OP asked if it was a good strategy & as i said i think a case can be made that he became one of their more effective players so it was a good strategy for ManU .
tbf i only chucked him in because it just illustrated the chaos at ManU around that time <laugh>

Harry Redknapp and Crouch at Spurs .

Redknapp loved continually signing the same players :emoticon-0138-think

Maybe I asked the wrong question then because anyone coming good under a different manager to the one who signed them is a very likely possibility <laugh>

I'm not sure its the same, we are certainly not in the same position as barca, neither are they similar players.

Barcelona need a serious rebuild, theyve let to many players age, i just dont see the sense in adding a player who will be the wrong side 30 in 12 months.

To be fair, gini will go in and do his job well straight away. If your looking for reliability as soon as you take over, you couldnt go far wrong with gini. Plus for Holland he carries a serious goal threat, not something we've been able to coax out of him.

Good points. We still don't know if he's leaving for Barcelona with some outlets reporting there's been no contact. It would make sense, if he's intent on leaving and we still don't know that's the case, to get something for him now rather than him leave for free next year. I hope he stays, if he doesn't I wish him luck, he's served us well.

Koeman will want and maybe need familiar faces to counter any hostility he may be facing. As things stand Wijnaldum would start but who knows what will happen, he could be going to sit on the bench. I hope for his sake if he does go there that it works out. Although another part of me sort of hopes that Barcelona continue to struggle.

De Telegraaf in the Netherlands are reporting on Gini's reported impending departure to Barcelona. #LFC

    --------

Pretty reliable source when it comes to Dutch players.

Its a strange situation with barca, the president gets as much stick as the manger, the players hold a massive amount of power. If the fans turn against you, your ****ed straight away

Maybe a period of struggle will do them good, the club seems completely inside out and upside down.

And Deco. Wasn't there a RB too?

Harry Redknapp always signed Crouch, Defoe, Kranjcar and Paddy Kenny
