It's the manager signing players he knows well scenario. Some managers like to seek out players they've already managed, sometimes signing the same player multiple times. Is that a good strategy? Any good examples? From Barcelonas point if view, I just don't get this signing at all.
Theyve got an ageing squad that has carried them as far as they can go, but to freshen it up, the greatest they can come up with is a 29 year old.

This is very true - and you post most of them. There are a lot of politics in transfer business, Thiago's is one and Wijnaldum is another, only the selling and buyer clubs know the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There so many make up stories.

Carvalho is a good example. Not sure on Fellaini. I just read up on him and his transfer to utd was in the 10 Worst Buys of the Season list. The following season Moyes left so I don't think that qualifies as a successful player/manager reunion.Carvalho - followed Mourino to Chelsea
as a debating point i'll chuck out Fellaini following Moyes to ManU . I think their is a case that he ended up being one of their more effective players over the next few years .
your OP asked if it was a good strategy & as i said i think a case can be made that he became one of their more effective players so it was a good strategy for ManU .Carvalho is a good example. Harry Redknapp and Crouch at Spurs .
Redknapp loved continually signing the same players![]()

they obviously just shared similar views on football and envelopes .mot maybe he just loved dealing with their particular agents?![]()
Maybe I asked the wrong question then because anyone coming good under a different manager to the one who signed them is a very likely possibilityyour OP asked if it was a good strategy & as i said i think a case can be made that he became one of their more effective players so it was a good strategy for ManU .
tbf i only chucked him in because it just illustrated the chaos at ManU around that time![]()

But the same would apply with our interest in Thiago, both players have 3 or 4 or 5 years left in them, Gini would be a good signing for Barca.
Still think he'll stay with us![]()

Good points. We still don't know if he's leaving for Barcelona with some outlets reporting there's been no contact. It would make sense, if he's intent on leaving and we still don't know that's the case, to get something for him now rather than him leave for free next year. I hope he stays, if he doesn't I wish him luck, he's served us well.To be fair, gini will go in and do his job well straight away. If your looking for reliability as soon as you take over, you couldnt go far wrong with gini. Plus for Holland he carries a serious goal threat, not something we've been able to coax out of him.
Funny you mention that palace game as he was playing RB from my recollection.Big mistake that, imo. We could have at least trawled the lower leagues or borrowed a European player. Think the idea was to play Milner there if desperate, but it's nearly three seasons since Milner did that effectively. The sight of him pulling Zaha's kecks down to stop him getting away the season before should have altered the club that the old warhorse just couldn't cope at full back against quality.
I still hope we've got a reasonable CB lined up, or will get one before the end of the season. Joe's formed has dipped since his Man City mauling, and Matip is, well, Sicknote. Need four CB's for a full season, for sure.

Koeman will want and maybe need familiar faces to counter any hostility he may be facing. As things stand Wijnaldum would start but who knows what will happen, he could be going to sit on the bench. I hope for his sake if he does go there that it works out. Although another part of me sort of hopes that Barcelona continue to struggle.

that had crossed my mind as well but does go a step further when dealing with certain clubs where it is made very public .Don't think we can complain about that tbf
