It is genuinely starting to sound like the start of a civil war breaking out. American citizens taking it upon themselves to take up arms and defend property and businesses from the rioters. This is because another black man was (rightfully) shot dead by the police, so more riots have broken out. ——————————————— Two people have been killed and one injured during a third night of unrest in the US city of Kenosha, sparked by the police shooting of a black man. Police said the three people were shot, but gave no details about who was involved. Local media reports earlier said the violence was believed to have stemmed from a conflict between protesters and armed men guarding a gas station. Unrest broke out in Kenosha after Jacob Blake was shot by police on Sunday. People have since defied emergency curfews in the city to join protests, which at times have turned violent. In their statement, Kenosha Police said officials responded to "reports of shots being fired and multiple gunshot victims" in the city at about 23:45 on Tuesday (04:45 Wednesday GMT). "The shooting resulted in two fatalities and a third gunshot victim was transported to a hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries," the statement said. It added that the identities of the victims were still being determined and that no further details would be given at this time. An investigation has been opened. Footage shared online showed a man with a rifle being chased by a crowd before he fell to the ground and appeared to fire multiple rounds into the crowd. Other video shows armed civilians, many dressed in military fatigues, congregating outside businesses they said they were protecting. Footage also shows people running through the streets as gunshots ring out, and wounded men on the ground. The governor of Wisconsin said on Tuesday he was sending more National Guard troops to the city amid the unrest.
Yep, nothing says “Black lives matter, I stand with you brothers and sisters, solidarity” better, than days of rioting and looting.
Theres footage of him wrestling with the police before he frees himself and walks towards the car door. Did he deserve to be shot? Probably not. But he only has himself to blame.
I honestly think if you know the possible outcome, you are indeed responsible. I'm not in favour of police shooting people, and call me old fashioned, but if a cop points a gun at me, I am going to do exactly what he ****ing tells me to do, even if he tells me to do farm animal imitations. My pig isn't very good though and I would deserve shooting for that alone
If I was to wrestle with 2-3 armed American coppers, managed to free myself, then turned my back on them, walked towards my car, leaned in, then I would expect to get shot. Copper may panic and shoot me 7 times? He's human.
Aye, I saw a sickening video a while ago in an old case where the bloke was trying his best to comply with the police and they still shot him. That kind of thing deserves to be called out. I have less sympathy if someone is told to stop and keeps going, ignoring repeated shouts. Ultimately, especially in America, you aren't going to let anyone reach inside a vehicle. You'd like to think they could shoot to wound, but that's easy for me to say sat here. As long as proper, thorough investigations are carried out to ensure the shooting was a reasonable response, there shouldn't be any vilification of the police for it
Agree mate, like I say, I would do anything a copper tells me to do in that situation. The only thing I could say about it, is they are close quarters and could have used a taser. However I have never been in that situation, and to point a gun at another human is alien to me, but its a case of him or me in that coppers mind. He's warned enough times, and once he's reached inside the car, he has effectively made that coppers mind up
Is there not? I thought if someone might be moving towards a vehicle you'd try and shoot them in the leg or whatever, which could still kill them obviously but less chance of it. Or is it just a case of taking no chances in that situation? Like I say, got absolute sympathy for the police in situations like that, if they think their life could be at risk then you shoot wherever you shoot imo. Must be a challenging time for the decent police over there, undoubtedly there's a good few bad eggs, but there must be loads of perfectly decent people doing the best job they can in incredibly difficult circumstances with their every move scrutinised and people likely to kick off over nowt
Once a bullet enters the body it’s anyone’s guess where it will exit. A limb is a very small area to hit with a bullet when the suspect is moving around erratically and the officers adrenaline is running riot. I carry a firearm (Glock with 30 rounds) every day of my working life, consider myself a fairly reasonable shot. I wouldn’t aim for a limb. When confronted with that situation you shoot to neutralise the threat. You do that by aiming at the centre of body mass. No cop is ever told or instructed to shoot to wound.
Ah fair enough, that makes sense. Reminds me to definitely do what I'm told any time I randomly have armed police near me!
Come for a holiday over here mate. We have to carry a firearm, taser, baton, CS spray when we hit the streets. We’ve also very recently all been issued overt body armour (for us mere woodentops) and body worn cameras. That said, it’s still a great job but not one that I take lightly. I’m fully aware of the power I have, force options and otherwise.
Its Australia you're in isn't it? Is it that bad there in terms of risk? Used to live there when I was really young (spent 3 years in Darwin), always fancied visiting again when I get the chance! Hope you're not getting rioting and the likes spilling out over there as well, keep safe marra!
Basically most media outlets are given the impression that the shooting was unjustified without clearly stating it. Stealthily planting the 'racism' seed in peoples brains. Not given out all of the information to allow us all to judge looking from both sides. Annoyed. Famous folk stating 'Justice for Jacob Blake' without digesting all of the facts. Its as if they silently celebrate the fact that this is gonna create more division. Another bandwagon for folk to jump on. Irritating. He was shot because at best he acted like a ****ing idiot, not because he was black.
I've never seen a pair of gloves in a glove box, it's invariably for something you don't want to be seen .... ... quite often a weapon. You'd think people would look at the recent cases of the consequences of resisting arrest and think better of it. Slow learners some folk ...
