Each to their own I suppose, but I find washing money a bit weird. Have you been to the pub or eaten in restaurants since they re-opened?

Nope.
Not desperate to go through all the shenanigans necessary just to sit in a pub or restaurant.
We get the occasional takeaway.
We were advised early on that cash could transmit the virus.
You could be given change that was handled by a carrier a couple of minutes earlier.
I realise that the virus could still be on my clothes, but I reckon it will die reasonably quickly and I always wash/sanatise my hands after being anywhere public, before touching my face etc.

It's a routine I've gotten into, which has minimal impact on my life and it all comes as second nature now.
As you say, each to their own and I respect your right not to do everything I'm doing, unless you're putting me and others in danger (imo).
However, as I said previously, I definitely think that schools and the NHS should be fully open, whilst applying sensible precautions.

Apparently the virus remains viable on various surfaces for extended periods in time. One of the longest is on packaging like parcels (and letters through the post), and on wooden surfaces. One of the best surfaces for killing the virus is supposed to be copper and so if coins have a high copper content then they would be safer for use than eg. coins which are silver or gold - this probably explains why diseases in the middle ages were spread by money (because of the amount of gold coinage then). In Israel they are coating many door handles with copper ions. Until we know exactly how each infection was caused most of this is speculation, and most medical authorities claim that airborne droplets are the only real concern but would prefer to stay on the safe side.

Do you wash your hands every time you touch a public door handle ? Or wash them in the supermarket after every time you touch an item or surface ? I definitely don’t and I suspect the vast majority don’t......therefore I find this obsession with some shops not accepting cash rather strange...

I don't think it's that difficult to be honest and in my opinion, a lot of what you say is more about not wanting to conform than anything else.

To be honest when I was a kid all parents told their kids to wash their hands regularly (in the 60s) because there were a lot of things going around then, and we were the first generation to be innoculated against anything. So it's not so difficult for old fogeys like me now. Sometimes when I come out of a shop I wonder if it's safe to roll a cigarette without having washed my hands in the meantime - but then the sceptics would tell me that the cigarette is more dangerous than the virus. Actually - although smokers get this thing heavier when they get it, they may be less likely to be infected

You say your new routines have minimal impact on your life, but I would say that not being able to drink in pubs or eat in restaurants had a major unwelcome impact on my life. So too, not being able to go to live sport. I was back in the pub as soon as it was open (before in fact) and have been eating out at least once a week, doing my bit for the economy. I will also be back at QPR and the cricket as soon as I'm allowed.

Of course schools and the NHS should be fully open. 'Protecting' the NHS will have cost many thousands of lives.

Why?
I'm the wrong end of my fifties and I'd rather not get this virus, that seems to have an outside chance of making me quite/very ill.
This friend is a retired liver specialist and was at the top of his game.
I'm not obsessive about things and I've continued to work throughout, because I believed it was ok for me to do so.

What's bizarre about trying to do the best you can for you and your family?
There are too many people criticising people who take precautions, who end up affected by the virus themselves.

Didn't mean to offend you mate.....just I find washing money rather strange. But honestly, if that’s your thing then who am I to judge.

Not at all Col, and not wanting to get the abuse that has been given to other members of this group, maybe I should keep quiet....however I question why is money such a big problem or issue.

As I said, I fully respect you doing what is right for you as long as you're not putting others in danger (within reason).
I'm not a huge pub goer and restaurants are usually a treat.
The theatres etc being closed is what has really had a detrimental effect on my life, both from an enjoyment perspective and possibly impacting some future earnings.
I think I'd probably go to Rangers too.

I was advised by a highly qualified doctor about cash etc.

Seems pretty obvious to me that something handled by so many people should be treated carefully.

Totally agree, the whole thing has been overhyped. The media has scared the population sh2tless. So much so that people are scared to send their kids back to school.

The jury is still out on schools - they have reopened in our area, but you only need one positive case in a school and automatically all pupils have to go into quarantine, or be tested. This has happened a couple of times in our area. It's known that children are more likely to have a mild or asymptomatic infection - but when they are symptomatic they shed the virus in similar quantities to adults, and can infect others in a similar way. Only 5% of all known cases in the EU. have been from people under 18 years of age - but allowing that schools can have up to a thousand pupils you only need one case and you're back to square one. The other problem is that these decisions are mostly made by people who have never been in a classroom with 30 kids - they talk about appropriate physical distancing and hygiene measures without realizing that these are impossible to uphold over an entire school day with a ratio of one teacher to 30+ children. It is imperative that schools hire extra staff for this in order to reduce class size but as long as they want to reopen under the present budgeting then it won't work.

I recently read a report on high school children in the usa being the main spreaders. Also I dont think Israel faired too well opening schools either.

The government doesn't flood the airwaves with 24hr news with every expert saying something different.
To blame the government for everything is way off the mark. Agree they have had a few u-turns but they were needed.
Take the quarantine measures for France... the government acted quickly to take the French off the list. A good call yet the media flooded the airwaves with every heartbreaking account of people's holidays being ruined. Yet last night infections in France are running 6 times higher than ours. Does anyone say 'well done' you got this right? No, because certain people don't like the government and will blame them for everything.
As for vulnerable people... common sense goes a long way. Many including my own family have vulnerable parents and have managed to cope. Agree there will be some cases where things are either difficult or impossible however for the vast majority of families will be able to return their children to school. however, I am sure certain members of the media will find the worst cases and manage to highlight them as being the norm.
