I don't think everything should be legalised, but we definitely need a different perspective on it. Of course people will die but also lots of people will be saved from doing drugs in a safe environment rather than swallowing/snorting/smoking illegal stuff mixed with god knows what.

Loads of banned drugs cause far less damage than alcohol does. The sooner society accepts that a huge percentage of people from all walks of life smash drugs then the sooner it can begin to treat the problem better.

This is off topic anyways and I'm ever so slightly outnumbered but good to have had the debate anyway. And while I'm yet to do so, I'll be reading a bit more on BLM before commenting again, based on the comments on here.
You are not outnumbered on here Rob for respect, we might not always agree but you always express an honest point of view of what you believe in, I am one of the older members but I study what you say and very often understand your reasoning, I have a son and daughter who I don't always agree with but I always find their advice sound and progressive, it's an old expression but you are never to old learn and I know it.

Keep them coming Rob, we need a younger input on here to keep us oldies upto date, I might not agree but then I still think Pluto is a planet.

drugs is like smoking an addiction as we all know … in this day and age it is amazing how the trend has gone from an extremely high % of the population smoking to a relatedly low %... indeed males used to be more than double female smokers … last time I looked [ couple or so years ago ] females made up 63% of smokers …..
but there is now a vast choice of alternatives super addictive ..whereas smoking so called calmed the nerves ..drugs do the opposite? !

Any addiction only becomes an illness if people ignore the tons of advice available, let's be honest a lot of smokers have given up because the government have put the price of tobacco beyond the range of most people.

think level playing field and % … and drugs do far more than alcohol. ALCOHOL biggest damage to life is whilst driving and there are probably 30million drivers? where as drug addicts are a small % in relation. The arguments on the proliferation of "collateral damage" is immense on the drug addicts side and sparse on the alcohol side . it is sad for either side to have been a victim.

I gave up around the 14th OCTOBER 1974..... reason ...I HAD NOT SMOKED ALL DAY almost 12 hours … it was at the carpark above PORT YR OGOF AND 1830 hrs

Drugs related deaths are less than half of alcohol related deaths in England.

IF YOU READ MY POST... level playing field and related death's .. drunk /alcohol RTA's is unfortunately almost instant with death outside of the event uncommon .. drugs is a slow killer / over dose excepted but is related to drug crime fueled overlaps … it is not just a basic 100 deaths for drugs 200 for alcohol … level playing field means per capita …
question ...40 million eligible to drive what is % [ number involved with alcohol abuse ] the number due to unrelated driving under alcohol is very small. ( second part ) how many drug addicts on illegal drugs die?

I don't understand a word that you are saying in this post.

But hey an average of 20,000 die each winter from hypothermia.

I don't want to see Police brutality for the sake of it, at home or abroad. You only have to see the ongoing injuries being inflicted on the citizens of Minsk to see what a Police state answerable to no one looks like. They should be there to keep law and order and to and prevent crime/solve criminal activity.

The Police officer who knelt on the neck of George Floyd for 8 minutes when he was clearly struggling to breathe and posing no possible threat to him will hopefully get the guilty verdict he so richly deserves, and a suitable prison sentence of many decades for what was essentially murder.

Not quite as extreme and worrying as Jiffies story about the drug fuelled skinny guy and the Police dog, but I sometimes watch programmes such as Police Interceptors and similar, and the sheer amount of abuse and provocation the Police have to face from oiks (for want of a better term) who want to joyride in other peoples cars, often while under the influence of drink, drugs or both, often without insurance, and basically who are never likely to provide any form of useful contribution to society, yet put other peoples lives at serious risk deserve everything they get in front of the camera or otherwise.
As a compromise I'd suggest deporting them to Syria, Afghanistan, Iran or countries that are emptying rapidly due to the mass migration of their own citizens. Plenty of room there for people with nothing else better to do.
And while we're on the subject, it's about time the French started doing 100% more to stop people leaving northern France for the UK as migrants.
We don't want them, and with our unemployment about to go into the millions they should be turned away to stop Social Services being put under even more pressure. The French have the capability to keep them away from Normandy but chose not to.

There were 30,000 police officers assaulted in the UK last year, in the past few days 2 officers were attacked in Ilfracombe bitten, punched and kicked and a police woman in Manchester suffered a nasty bite from some sub human.

The problem is our injustice system is infected with far too many liberal judges, gone are the days where any assault on police meant jail time, now even serious assaults on police do not end in jail time.

The trial of the vile scum for killing of PC Harper beggared belief, these 3 laughed and joked throughout the proceedings, whilst their families intimidated witnesses and jurors alike and to make matters worse were then given a pathetic sentence by another useless judge. I cannot imagine the pain and horror of the barbaric way that he died.

I am old enough to remember the killing of 3 young unarmed police officers in London at the hands of Harry Roberts 54 years ago this month, if ever life should have meant life that was Harry Roberts, but no he was released in 2014 and now is afforded celebrity status even signing autographs.

And sadly since the lockdown has been eased and morons party and march, assaults on police have sky rocketed but sentencing remains weak.

But worst of all people who like to complain about everything and nothing, still do not offer any solutions whatsoever, other than to take away the few tools that the police use, like tasers and spithoods.

One last thing on the subject of George Floyd, I am no expert but I would be willing to wager given the amount of drugs in his system, had he been tasered there is a very high probability that he would still have died from that and also I would wait for the full body cam footage to be released in court to decide whether he was compliant or not and that is the problem, how to subdue somebody who does not want to be subdued for whatever reason.

Thanks wiz. That's really appreciated, it honestly is. And the same absolutely goes for you guys. :emoticon-0148-yes::emoticon-0167-beer:

As I've said, I'm going to refrain on commenting on BLM until l've read more on the other side. This thread has shown me I didn't know quite as much about the opposing argument as I thought I did. Being open minded is the only way you'll ever better yourself and become more intelligent!

Well said that man, even us older members are not always right.

BLM is like extinction rebellion, seems like a good idea but it is pretty much a political organisation with pretty much the same political aims as BLM.

Nothing to stop people following the concept of black lives matter rather than the organisation

Indeed, but surely it would bring more people together if the cause was united under the banner of all lives matter?

What do you think the concept is?

The organisation is the concept. A race based concept. A race based ideal with plans and intentions. The protests in the UK are part of this global extreme left wing ideological movement.

that is because you do not understand that in 2018 over 670 died in relation to drink related incidents [ certainly not double drug related ] and over 5000 died in primary drug related incidents, over 1100 in Scotland and 4000 in England and Wales [ a figure which is likely on low side ]
in defeat always try and deflect the subject … it is great to make "awe inspiring statements" but should it not be possible you understand what you are stating" then you should not make them a trait you seem good at? :emoticon-0138-think

THERE you go …..... open mind and looking at the bigger picture, every day I learn something ..it is a habit! be it a bird that needs to bury an acorn to make a new Oaktree grow … in the wild … a butterfly whose larva lives in an ants nest … or that pluto is not a planet...lol [ knew it was a controversial one ]

the vast majority of the world knows all lives matter it is only a select few that choose to differentiate

WOW really …. !

mmm that black lives matter maybe?

If I google the words you used the concept of black lives matter it clearly is an organisation. The words are indistinguishable from the movement. The movement is a concept, a overtly political concept. .

All lives matter regardless of age, race, creed etc and I have dedicated decades of my life working for charities that uphold that unifying principle. Black lives matter the concept does not.
