I think it's far too simplistic to say they're '****' at their jobs. Directors at the club seem to have deemed these roles non-essential. That doesn't mean I agree with them. And it doesn't mean the sole option is to get rid of them.

Regarding the roles that we do know about which have gone, based on the way we've been handling transfers for the last year, I think the approach we've taken is not the right one. So getting rid of the core of our recruitment team, and preferring to use high-profile agents, is something I fundamentally can't abide.

I don't know if they will all be replaced because I don't know which areas of the club have suffered redundancies. Until I get a clearer picture of that, it's hard to say.

However, I've been sceptical of Arsenal's methods for a little while now and all this does is reaffirm my suspicions for the reasons I've already stated.

It's been patently obvious for a while that we're relying on contacts and getting into bed with big name agents. Far too often for my liking.

The thing is, how much money are we actually going to save by making 55 non-playing staff redundant? I'd wager £2m at best. That's loose change to a huge sports institution.

We have an owner that's worth over £6bn and his net worth actually increased by £323m during this pandemic. There's no way you can say to me that our club couldn't have done more to try and retain these staff members. No billionaire club should be letting staff go like this.

I've heard some people try to defend this by saying if you're not providing value to Arsenal as a business, then heads need to roll.

But one of the people we've got rid of is Francis Cagigao, who was our Head Scout for over 23 years. He played a huge role in us signing the likes of Fabregas, Cazorla, Reyes, Lauren, Sanchez, Van Persie, Bellerin and recently Martinelli and Saliba. Is scouting now not a valuable part of Arsenal's business?

I don't know where the other 54 redundancies have been made, but if, like I fear, we're dismantling the core of our scouting network in favour of this contacts/agents-led approach via Edu and Raul Sanllehi, then this is awful.

Having won a trophy 4 days ago, this is horrible news coming out from the club.

I completely agree about the morality but I'm not sure your example is a good one. I suspect scouts are being ousted by technology. So much is measured these days that i doubt old fashioned scouting can unearth anyone in the professional leagues.

Redundancies get rid of people who do good work. If they were **** at their jobs they would simply use capability procedures to sack them. That would save them on paying out redundancy money and the bad publicity.

Arsenal are taking the piss at the expense of the normal staff.
If they have the money to offer Aubameyang an EXTRA £150,000 PER WEEK (£7.6m per year) then they have more than enough to carry on employing the 55 staff.

Totally agree. I've voted in every election since 1974 for the least capitalist candidate with a chance in my constituency. And with some success, a Conservative has never won! However the number of people who vote to continue the legalised robbery they stand for is amazing.

I definitely don't agree with the decision. More so having discovered that the players were promised it wouldn't happen. My post might have appeared to have said the opposite though so yours gave me a chance to clarify.
The owners are the wealthy ones not the clubs though. Most PL clubs are simply a vehicle for taking money off mostly poor fans and directing it to wealthy players. They barely keep anything

These people are losing their jobs in the worst employment crisis since the 1930s.
Last week a posh cafe bar in Manchester advertised a waiter/waitress job. They got over a thousands applications....in less than 24 hours.
That's what Arsenal sre throwing those people into.
It's a sick decision from a disgraceful industry run by greed and absolute ****s.

I think it's just a rather stupid, shortsighted decision.
It reminds me of what Hoeness said about Bayern and their ticket prices.
They could put them up and earn a few million, but they'd haggle about that for ten minutes in a transfer deal.
It means a lot more to the supporters that they'd be taking it from.

They will be taking the same amount of money from fans irrespective of ticket prices, albeit mostly indirectly. Low ticket prices have a lot going for them but I think there should be a premium for season tickets. Otherwise you get the situation where they don't become available because it is better for 'fans' to keep them and sell off individual matches even if they never plan on going.

That happens now with more expensive tickets, probably more so.
People can justify the fees for the better games, but are happy to subsidise them by selling their seat for Tuesday against Watford or whatever.
