Disgusting. Where's Anthony Taylor? Leaving him out of the team photos like he's Ozil. <doh>
He's won you two FA Cups and that's the gratitude that you show him.

Probably. Couldn't find one for 2020.

Don't worry. He's still in the most recent team picture, I just think he borrowed Ozil's invisibility cloak before he set off to Turkey <whistle>.

Hard to believe that four seasons ago, the Goons winning the FA Cup was
a token salve for yet another instance of their abject PL and CL failure
at the business end of the season.

Nowadays tis their "last grasp" means of qualifying for the EUROPA LEAGUE. :)

Now, now. Let's not get it twisted.

We have had a horrendous season. We were seen as one of the favourites to get top 4. We spent £140m (gross) on a squad that finished 5th + reached the Europa League final the preceding year. So to finish 8th is not just failure, it is catastrophic failure. Winning the FA Cup doesn't change that.

But it does give us some confidence going into next season, gives us an additional cash boost in the transfer market and it typifies that, despite how bad we have been in the last few years, we are still able to capture silverware when the odds are stacked against us. This will last longer in our memories than any 4th place finish would.

For a side that has undeniably been on the wane, we've reached 6 cup finals in 7 years, winning 4 of them.

We should be doing much better, but it could also be far worse.

Arsenal are sacking 55 people, so that they can pay Aubameyang £350k pw.
I'm sure that the media will react as vociferously as they did when Spurs said that they were going to use the furlough scheme.
Should just sack Ozil and let the Turkish taxpayer pick up the tab when he joins his dictator mate's club, Basaksehir.

Wouldn't be surprised if every professional club did something similar. Lost revenues are massive and no-one will risk being the first to cut players' wages.

So you're saying that wasn't to pay for the back-to-back page spreads in Monday's Metro?

The thing is, how much money are we actually going to save by making 55 non-playing staff redundant? I'd wager £2m at best. That's loose change to a huge sports institution.

We have an owner that's worth over £6bn and his net worth actually increased by £323m during this pandemic. There's no way you can say to me that our club couldn't have done more to try and retain these staff members. No billionaire club should be letting staff go like this.

I've heard some people try to defend this by saying if you're not providing value to Arsenal as a business, then heads need to roll.

But one of the people we've got rid of is Francis Cagigao, who was our Head Scout for over 23 years. He played a huge role in us signing the likes of Fabregas, Cazorla, Reyes, Lauren, Sanchez, Van Persie, Bellerin and recently Martinelli and Saliba. Is scouting now not a valuable part of Arsenal's business?

I don't know where the other 54 redundancies have been made, but if, like I fear, we're dismantling the core of our scouting network in favour of this contacts/agents-led approach via Edu and Raul Sanllehi, then this is awful.

Having won a trophy 4 days ago, this is horrible news coming out from the club.

Serious question, do you think a company should keep employing people they don't actually need just to be nice and spread the wealth?

Well, there are three critical points to make here.

Firstly, you're assuming that these roles aren't somewhat essential to the club. Our chief scout leaving, along with our recruitment specialist and head of UK recruitment, doesn't bode well for the future considering most of the signings we're currently leaning towards are at the recommendation of Kia Joorabchian, who is a footballing agent. He was previously Tevez's agent, and is currently the agent of David Luiz, Willian, Cedric Soares and Phillipe Coutinho. Two of those players have signed for Arsenal, and the other two have been strongly linked with us - one of whom is currently looking likely to join us. If our plan for future recruitment rests on the say-so of agents like Kia, this is not a footballing plan I endorse. It's lazy, based on nepotism and there's no logical basis for recruitment to be approached in such a way. Maybe these uncertain times provided the perfect excuse to get rid of these guys. It could have been on the cards anyway. But, whatever the motives are, I don't agree with it.

Secondly, let's say for argument's sake most of these job roles are being culled because they're based on roles or responsibilities required on match days when there's 60,000 people coming to The Emirates. Getting rid of these people, without any provisions for these staff to come back once crowds are allowed back in stadiums, is not morally or ethically justifiable. When reports are coming out that we're willing to bump up Aubameyang's wages to £300k per week, and are on the cusp of offering 32-year old Willian £130k per week on a 3-year deal, it just seems so dishonourable to get rid of jobs that have an average salary of £35k a year. These 55 people have provided a service to Arsenal Football Club and have aimed to help us in any capacity they can. It's not their fault there's a global pandemic. We could, and should, do more to look after our own. Even if that means retraining or reassigning them positions.

Thirdly, if the club statement is saying that Kroenke has provided 'significant financial support in terms of refinancing stadium debt', then he could sure as hell help his employees too. Like I said. Kroenke is worth over £6bn. He has earned an additional £323m during the pandemic, so he's actually profited from this. It's not unreasonable to ask him to make more of an effort for those who are just trying to make an honest day's living.

If they are all replaced i will think that it's a **** show and just an excuse to get rid of people that are no good at their job, second thoughts i would do the same if they were **** at their jobs.
Do you think they will all be replaced and if so why?
