Ta. I actually couldn't find an 'official' UK site, but also figured the US site was likely to take the more extreme line anyway, so safer sharing that one. Happy to edit the other post to include the UK link too if anyone knows the official site?
But isn’t it a fact that there is a clear link between young black males and youth gang violence....especially in London ?
Of course we don't use "Caucasian" when describing Scotsmen in Scotland in the 1990's! Because they were virtually all Caucasian at that time. Jeez, this is straight out of the Jo Swinson book of woke speech. Now you are seriously suggesting that I have fabricated BLM's position that the police should be defunded. How do you explain this or are you suggesting I fabricated it too: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/pol...ice-black-lives-matter-backlash-a4483981.html You continually hedge. You say something isn't so, and then imply that even if it is so, you don't necessarily endorse it. You want it all ways, and you're going to get a nasty splinter from that fence
I'm not sure they have a website, but very active on Facebook and Twitter if you Google BLM UK Lots of detail about local actions e.g. efforts to close down Yarl's Wood (in over 5 languages) and support for the Ryanair cabin crew strike
“We’re guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism, white-supremacy, patriarchy and the state structures that disproportionately harm black people in Britain and around the world. We build deep relationships across the diaspora and strategise to challenge the rise of the authoritarian right-wing across the world, from Brazil to Britain” That’s the statement from the BLMUK gofundme page that raised over a million pounds......I presume it’s official as if it wasn’t then I’m sure the ‘official BLM’ would be claiming the money raised.
Have a look at the figures on who is killing and who is dying in London. It's young black men (apologies to Jo Swinson for not qualifying further)
Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. Old white men do a disproportionate share of noncing but I wouldn’t wish to consider it an issue the old white men community need to look at themselves for.
Yeah it’s a shame black people don’t agree with what you say and think. They should know better, eh ?
I doubt it too to be fair. However some are willing to admit and confront the problem. And that’s a very good thing
It's really not that hard to understand - I can only assume you are trying to willfully misunderstand it. Let's take it out of the current context to see if you can wrap your head around it. If I were to say "I support the civil rights movement in the USA of the 1960s, but disagree with the actions [and many views] of the Black Panthers", would that be fence sitting, or just a broadly sensible thing to say? I ask again - do you endorse everything Johnson says because he led the Leave vote and the Party you voted for in 2019? Or are you capable of independent thought, or 'fence sitting' as you put it? As for the defund the police statement - I've still not seen that on any of their official sites, but I have no issue with the tweet in that article. "When we say 'Defund the police' we mean 'Invest in programmes that actually keep us safe like youth services, mental health and social care, education, jobs and housing. Key services to support the most vulnerable before they come into contact with the criminal justice system'. That's precisely the sort of holistic multi-disciplinary approach that worked with white on white violence in Glasgow.
You're hedging because you say something doesn't exist and that it has been fabricated - a policy of defunding the police - and then qualify your statement by saying, anyway, I don't subscribe to everything the BLM stands for. If you can't see it, I haven't the energy to explain it further. It sounds like you now accept I didn't make up the BLM policy of defunding the police. That's progress of sorts.
I support QPR, but I'm damned if I'd be too happy to see Luke Amos in a hooped shirt again. With regards to the VRUs in Glasgow, and the surrounding areas. I moved up here just over 20 years ago and there were stabbings every week, and plenty of murders every year. The figures have dropped, although locally we still have one of the highest murder rates per head of population... https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk...inverclyde-has-highest-murder-rate-in-the-uk/ The approach that the VRUs conduct in Glasgow is definately an approach that should be considered, not just in London but nationwide as it's had a dramatic effect in the reduction of offences. This is an excellent article that I've posted before about the VRU www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-scotland-45572691
What about if I throw in Paul Hart as manager? The VRU stuff is really interesting, and is precisely the sort of investment that's needed to make any real difference, reconsigning the 'upstream' challenges that need to be fixed rather than just throwing money at the police hoping that will fix anything.
