Yeah we are clearly safe - it isn't just the points we are clear, or the fact the bottom 3 have a combined total of 1 point since the restart, or even that we have recorded 2 good wins and playing well, it is the fact that there are so many **** sides in the mix below us.

Even if somehow the bottom 3 ALL turned their dogshit form around and all had fantastic runs, it would still mean Brighton, Watford and West Ham would all need to do the same.

Let's relax guys - we are safe <cheers>

Yes it is. Its the foundation of the love I have for the saints. Many of my favorite memories are from the escapes. And since our return to the prem in 2012, the absolute best game & combined feeling of elation was the Swansea win. I must have been smiling for like four months after that. EPIC.

I feel differently. To finish top of the midtable was great. To avoid the drop was frankly not good enough for me. A team with the level of experience that SFC had in the PL at the time, and to just avoid the drop, was not good enough so nothing to celebrate. That is my feeling and each to their own.

SFC are better than a side that beats the drop. There are good revenue streams, a wonderful infrastructure, a solid fanbase, so to be anywhere near the drop zone at the end of the season means the club has underperformed. Thankfully, this has now been rectified, and to get 40 with 6 games to play, is a small matter of celebration. Now lets get as close as possible to 50.

You have to sometimes struggle through adversity to reach your goals. If you cannot over come, you have to lower your ambition. Staying up was crucial, and we had no right to that year, Swansea were in a power position. When we do rise again it will be more fun knowing how close we came to a different future. So don't be ashamed of the struggles, be proud of the journey.

You are right, but sometimes that adversity is partially self-inflicted, so that is why I find an escape from the drop rather underwhelming. In the past when SFC were at the Dell, it was a different matter.

Some of the mistakes we have made have been absolutely bewildering, but we have no divine right to be mid table each season, that takes hard work and talent, and sometimes a bit of luck. Right now I just want to see us get back on track, sensible spending, & clear the decks. The surrounding community is more of a worry at this moment in time. And I fear this coming weekend isn't going to help as much as people think. Sadly.

It's because their new sponsorship agreement with Three begins today and they can't wear a shirt with Yokohama on the front anymore.

So they just launched the new kit and started playing it in earlier than planned (although their kit launch was presumably planned for July 1 pre-COVID!)

Edit: Not sure I meant to quote you Brendy, sorry!

Avoiding relegation is a cause for celebration if you are threatened with it....and we were earlier in the season. A question of context. We can now enjoy the rest of the season...do you know I have managed to watch at least part of our last 2 matches. So proud.

Norwich can't finish above us, even if they won all their remaining games and we lost all of ours. I don't think Bournemouth will pick up any points over the next 3 games, maybe not even their next 5. They look down, their players don't look to care.

Then I think it's between Villa and Watford, West Ham unfortunately have what it takes with some decent players and their fixtures aren't too bad, Brighton should be fine.

I think from our point of view we should be able to take 9 points from our last three games (Brighton, Bmouth & Sheff U), but I'm not expecting much, if any, from our next three. 49 points would be a great return considering the first half of the season. Unfortunately, while we've picked up some wins, all the teams just above us keep winning too - Newcastle, Burnley, Everton etc.

Fair to say Chelsea have let the entire world of football down this week.

First they give Liverpool the title.

Now they help West Ham avoid relegation.

It is if you’re in danger of going down.

I never “want” us to be in a relegation battle, but....

    Swansea
    Villa
    Sheffield United
    Everton
    Wimbledon
    Dellhurst Park

What amazing feelings at the end of those games.

Avoiding relegation is always a reason for celebration... it just depends on the degree of escape.

For six out of eight seasons in the PL, SFC have been nowhere near the relegation zone at the season´s end so great reasons to celebrate. The narrowness of the. 2018 and 2019 escapes and not reaching 40 points illustrated how awful the side were throughout the campaigns. I do not believe in celebrating awfulness. This season we can celebrate with pride as SFC look like a decent PL side again.

I'd be celebrating a relegation itself rather than avoiding one.

It could be after this weekend. Bournemouth are away to Man Utd and Villa are away to Liverpool. Both lose and then we would just need to beat City to confirm safety :1980_boogie_down:

It might even be less. I can't see Bournemouth getting more than 35 points. Villa can't score so I think they'll struggle to get the wins they need.

We needed that Norwich result to put it to bed, but that it did.

Don’t get me wrong, I know in my heart that we’re safe, and not just because of the points difference and the lack of games to catch us. I suppose the old cliché “we’re too good to go down” actually might be literally true in our case. The only spark of life from the bottom 5 was shown last night by Spam, but no one else has shown any desire to survive at all. We, on the other hand, have won 2 out of 3, scored 6 and played some great football. We could easily reach 50 points and still have an outside chance of a Europa place.

Until that adding machine clicks and whirs and goes ding, though, I ain’t taking nothing for granted.
