Interesting example

However, I doubt that his employer would be able to sack him (at least not legally or without potentially significant compensation) as I doubt that they would be able to enforce the reputational clause (if he had one) in his contract - the key being that this wasn't aligned to discrimination legislation (wasn't racist, homophobic etc)

It is a difficult balance - where is the line drawn? The danger is that it is just used to get rid of anyone a business doesn't like rather than their being a justifiable reason (performance, gross misconduct etc)

Agree, a very tricky one legally speaking, they could just do what the company I work for do, have a restructure and just get rid of anyone whose face doesn't fit. There is usually a way of getting rid of someone if they want to, and put the effort in to do so.

If Corbyn had provided a cure for cancer people would still be upset in the way he did it
I was never aligned with JC politically, but he certainly didn't deserve the vitriol or much of the figure of fun jokes that he had to put up with

His biggest error if judgement was surely shagging Diane Abbott.....he must've been the only person she's ever spoken to who didn't feel was being patronized by her

More lies and spin was told about Corbyn than anyone I've ever seen in the entire history of the planet, if someone doesn't agree with his politics that's fine as long as there's good reason behind it and yeah his politics isn't for everyone, which I'm absolutely sure you have. Just found so many as soon as you ask for which policies, what factors, their reasoning, a lot of the time they can only have the ability to bring up emotive stuff that is straight out of the daily mail and is at best factually lacking at worst absolute bollocks.

His biggest mistake for me was not sticking up for himself, I'm expecting a lot of bollocks to come out about Starmer, I just don't see him putting up with lies after lies

Have agreed with you on much over recent weeks, but not on this I'm afraid. The way Starmer has handled Rebecca Long-Bailey today is the perfect contrast to Corbyn. He's acted decisively and swiftly on an antisemitism issue; got rid of a rival; and contrasted himself nicely with Boris over his handling of Jenrick too. He's showing competence and political adeptness, neither of which JC demonstrated...

Anyway, a thing of the past now, which I won't put too much time into discussing!

I've only seen a report where she mentioned Isreal.

Why does that make her anti semitic?

She retweeted an article (with a comment endorsing it) claiming that the police who killed George Floyd were trained by Israeli special forces to out their knee on his airways. Making up stuff like that is a form of antisemitism.

And before anyone says it, no, criticism of Israel is not antisemitism, but making up falsehoods about Israel and linking them to a murder which has sparked huge unrest might well be considered to be antisemitic. Why bring Israel into this issue which is clearly about the actions of the officer involved, and the systemic problem in the US police force?

In other words, not all criticism of Israel is antisemitic, but some can be. RLB is well aware of the strenuous efforts Starmer is making to move away from the antisemitism issue, and she is a leadership rival. Even if one doesn't consider her actions to be antisemitic, it's a bloody stupid thing to give Starmer an excuse to make an example of her.

Ok granted this is a non starter as it wouldn't happen, but hypothetically if someone flew a banner over a war memorial on veterans day saying all retirees should be remembered, then saying he'd apologise to ****ing no one after being made aware of the upset he would of caused, no laws broken, was clearly going to be emotive and upset people. What would you expect the publics reaction would be? Would people be upset if that person was sacked from their job? Would there be anyone suggesting that he's broken no laws so he shouldn't be sacked?

I don’t get your point Wills......he’s probably get the same punishment as now...ie mine through the law as he hasn’t broken any but his private employer may wish to terminate his contract.....surely it would be the same ?

Fair enough. But there must be cases where, politicians have made stuff up, concerning other nations, with no mention of what the main religion of that country was, after all was said and done.

Perhaps so, yes. If it is an isolated example then you might consider it to be a mistake.

If that one country is picked on time and time again by multiple people you might start to question if that group of people has an issue with that country for some reason. If a group of people spread mistruths time and time again about Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and Kosovo, I'd start to question if they were Islamophobic. If someone senior in an orgasniation under the spotlight for persistent Islamaphobia spread mis-truths about Saudi I would think that person is a ****ing idiot, if nothing else.

It's an imperfect analogy, I know, but hopefully makes the point.

Have the EU forced you into quarantine, Ellers? Should we be sending provisions? Tins of baked beans, Marmite, Cornish pasty, that sort of stuff?

Labour's deputy leader, Angela Rayner, has to go home tonight to the flat she shares with RWB. I'd like to be a fly on the wall...

Yes mate 2 weeks but i am coming to the end of it. I took my provisions with me and a family member here dropped off some essential beer. :) You wouldn't think anything had happened here. Life as usual.
