He was quite a character, you always knew it was the end of the night at the Silhouette on Spring Bank, as it always finished with Twaddles stood on a table singing New York, New York. He started with the line 'start spreading your legs'...

I had to make a double take when I saw your post John.
First, I thought didn't Ritchie Valens die with Buddy Holly in '59 ? Big hit with "La Bamba".

Secondly, I thought didn't Ray Peterson have a hit with "Tell Laura I Love Her " ?
He did (later) in the U.S. but Decca decided not to release Peterson's version in the UK because they deemed it was "tasteless". and dumped 25k copies of the disk. A cover version by Ricky Valance on the Columbia label was released instead.
I only recall the Peterson version - must have been through Radio Luxembourg I suppose. Think it reached the top 10 in the US.
There's hardly any difference ( to my ears anyway) in the two recordings. Mind you, it's been 60 years since I first heard the song !

    RIP Ricky.

I think he’s also defended Hull previously. He does come across very well. I can’t imagine what he’s going through. RIP Sara Chapman

    RIP Twaddles.

Pretty sure he used to frequent Hull Cheese back in the 80's. He might have even been the DJ at some point. remember him well. Daft and harmless.

Heard he was in an induced coma yesterday in the hope it would save him.
Sad news to hear he has passed from leukaemia.

I used to like watching the snooker in them days, it was full of real characters. Willie Thorn was one of them. Alex Higgins, Ray Reardon, Dennis Taylor, Jimmy White. All sports desperately need people like them.
