Pablo Escobar saw himself as a philanthropist and social leader. I'm sure Pol Pot did too.
It's probably the same for all who have power over others.
I'm sure mafia families saw themselves as being generous to society, lavishing rewards on those they deemed worthy (and punishment to those they didn't) .

If you benefited then they were good people, if you didn't then maybe not so much.

The net is currently brimming with white blokes claiming that by removing slave trader statues it’s somehow uppity black folks wanting to erasing history, when until the statue of Colston was rolled into the briny, the vast majority of them had no ****ing clue who he was, or what he was responsible for. They could have walked past that statue in the street and still not known who and what he was, but yeah erasing history that’s why they’re all so upset.............honest.

Let's call it what it is .

Racism, they think that by taking onboard the feelings and views of the ancestors of those murdered by these people it somehow diminishes them and makes the feelings of black people more important.
Fear, that somehow the removal of statues they knew nothing about is going to make them less important and is removing their way of life and the ancestry they are proud of.

Good point.

Why don't we teach kids about Colonialism and the Slave trade in schools ?

Why do we gloss over the fact that Churchill was responsible for the deaths of 4 million Bengalis ?

You complain about 'denying history', but that's exactly what's been going on anyway.
Conveniently education glosses over the bad **** like the killing of 400 men women & children in Amritsar. We as a nation like so many have blood on our hands. We know the cost of empire as do most, thank god that **** has been learned but unfortunately you cannot change the past.

History is written by the winners.

Exactly, history is recorded by those in power, to cement their own agenda and maintain their power.

It's clear that it's accuracy is a moot point. So why the faux outrage over 'protecting' history when vast swathes of it are ignored or rewritten to gloss over atrocities.

To be fair though, these incidents are barely touched upon in the main. I bet most people would have to go and google what the Amritsar massacre was. Along with the whole issue of partitioning of India. Nobody can change the past, but there's been a deliberate effort to gloss over huge swathes of British history because it doesn't suit the narrative of the 'Great British Empire'

Not going to lie. I’m beginning to look forward to the carnage on Saturday.

BLM vs EDL

Both acting like ****s so it’ll be good to watch them slaughtering each other :emoticon-0148-yes:

What's all this **** about 'when white people take to the streets' anyway ?

I've seen thousands of white people on the streets marching with the BLM movement.

Some folk trying to make out that it's Black v White, ****ing naive at best.

The realities of the British Empire aren’t taught in schools properly. They ought to be, but they’re not. Like much of our history it’s been airbrushed, sanitised and edited, as the reality isn’t that pleasant. Maybe the positive from all of this, is that’s revisited and the true reality of the ‘Empire’ is laid bare for future generations.

It's been a bit of an inconvenience for the wealthy elite to admit to their vast wealth, power and influence coming off the backs of the exploitation, murder and subjugation of black people.

Well yeah, given that around 20% of them can trace their wealth back to the slave trade and the Govt reparations when it ended.

No wonder so many of the chinless ****s are big fans of the eugenics theories.

I reckon we should replace our statues with giant pieces of lego. @Solid_Air 2
on the misread / misheard stuff my two classics are
A ) Michael Jackson singing "its diphtheria" always confused me .

B ) Mrs Solid was watching some ****e romantic crap on tele one day and when i looked up an advert was just finishing . I went "give me the remote" and rewound so i could just check what i had seen as surely i had misread it .
