Quite frankly I honestly do hope it was the parents and over sedation. Other thoughts of what may have occurred are far worse!
I think this is probably why so many are prepared to believe it...

Lets say you live in a bungalow, its a sunny day so you leave a window open on the latch. Your kids bedroom is on the side of the house and has just gone to bed. Its evening and your having a couple of glasses of wine outside in your back garden. You go back to check on your kids and they are gone.I think I made myself clear... nobody deserves that.. nobody... they made a bad decision ... the price for that has proved to be incomprehensible, so I'm not going to be a dickhead and turn the knife.. they don't need mr or Mrs perfect reminding where they went wrong.. they've paid price already... I just ain't that person like I say . I'd rather put my arm around someone and just be kind.

That is not much different than what happened. Now for the record I am VERY against what they did abroad, if they drugged her to go to sleep or something so they could have a good old chinwag at the restaurant is a huge mistake. Chaos I am with you on this that they deserve punishment for what they did but NOT THAT PUNISHMENT and certainly MM didn't deserve it either.
I'm with Chaos. Until there is some conclusive evidence they were guilty of the crime, I have nothing but sympathy with them for making such a terrible decision which had consequences way beyond their probable worst case scenario.
I'm not down with all the judgey people in the world. COVID has brought that out in the ugliest way, but its always been there if you look at this and other cases.
They should have had their children taken away.
They are guilty of neglect as an absolute minimum.
they did in the worst possible way

Sorry meant their other children.
Having sympathy for them doesn't have to equate to them not being punished for what they did imo. There's a middle ground here... it's not black and white.
I think they learned a lesson already... I see bad parenting all the time .. kids wondering around while parents watch tv... luckily a serial child killer want around that day I guess.. I'm not condoning what they did, but I don't think any further punishment is necessary... their daughter was raped and murdered it would appear...imagine that and imagine living knowing your error... also the other kids still love their parents and I doubt they'll be left alone anywhere , but others across the globe will be, but won't end up killed thankfully
yep... I mean mother of Bulger made a mistake leaving her son outside a shop in a mall ... she never got this abuse because I think people had more compassion for the crime than a witch hunting mentality back then. I can't help but feel for these people ... I've made mistakes in my life, but thankfully I was punished so severely for mine ..
Let me put it another way, let's say a parent was giving their two young children heroin and one overdosed and died.
Would you say that oh they've been punished now and have probably learnt their lesson? Or that actually, they've proven that they're ****ing irresponsible parents and should be treated as such?
it's an interesting one that, but that harm was worse imo. They didn't deliberately throw there daughter at the feet of a rapist murderer. Like I say imo there's no greater punishment imaginable for their error, so for me it rather help a person back on their feet than kick them while they're down. I've been in some ****ty situations myself through my own actions and there was always some **** there saying " well you should've tbough about that at the time " the fact was I didn't need telling I just needed help at that point..
Why do you keep banging on about rapists and murderers? Not all kids who are kidnapped are raped and/or murdered nor are all kidnappers rapists or murderers. Nobody knows who took her, or even if someone actually did.

There's no argument they ****ed up mate I get that
Yes that one was a bit extreme but the point is a crime is a crime, they gave a toddler sedatives and left her alone. Regardless of the awful outcome they should have been punished for that, same as anyone else would have been.
What about the drink driving one? 99% of drink drivers will complete their journey without problem and the worst possible outcome is killing somebody. So we don't prosecute in that situation right?
I think it's clear the parents were not the killers.
Hans Christian Wolters, a spokesman for the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office, said: "We are assuming that the girl is dead.
"With the suspect, we are talking about a sexual predator who has already been convicted of crimes against little girls and he's already serving a long sentence."
