The price of a player does not reflect his performance for the buying club. Benteke and Pogba being examples, the best example is probably Coutinho

He didn’t do that badly for you, he had one season, played 42 games and scored 10 goals.

Klopp wasn’t having him and got rid, as he wasn’t the kind of striker he wanted to play with.

Neil Mellor... <whistle>

We've had very few over the years since Billy Liddell, really. I always wanted us to buy Cyril Regis back in the day, but it just didn't really suit our style, except as a back up to sit on the bench; and if they were half-decent they weren't going to put up with that.

I used to admire Graeme Sharpe, because he was mobile with it (and he used to scare the **** out of Hansen), and Giroud is still now a potent weapon on the bench. And there's that Geordie **** Shearer, who in the mid 90's was the best in the world, in my book. Shearer was ****ing hard - seen him kicked to **** and not complain, but give it back in spades. Like Osgood could too.

Big Les was the best I’ve ever seen in the flesh, he was only about 5ft 10” iirc but he had the highest leap I’ve literally ever seen, and neck muscles like Tyson, so his heading ability was immense. He once scored a headed goal for QPR and I was stood at the front of the Gwladys right in line with him, unreal it was, I can still see it now.

Yeah thought of him after I'd posted.

Liverpool will try to negotiate a fee between £36m and £53m for Timo Werner, according to reports. They’re not the only ones with that plan, however.

The Telegraph makes the claim. They say that Werner’s current £53m release clause expires on June 15th and Liverpool will wait for it to expire.

Makes sense...

So, if we do want to buy him, we may have to pay more than the release clause <laugh>

Koulibaly is a top quality CB that would improve any team but I'll be quite pissed if we sign him, it's not an area that's in need of that sort of investment.
Apart from that, we may have to sell two or three centre backs. ACON is coming in January and may be short in that department.

ACON may well be cancelled due to COVID-19, I shudder to think how it will hit African countries with an underfunded Health Service and chaotic governments, hang on that is us. Well Africa will be worse off unfortunately.
