I just don't understand why we haven't enforced lockdown better. Yes we have the R rate down below 1 (though barely), and the daily deaths/cases are decreasing, but how on earth are we still getting 8,000 new infections and 2-300 hundred deaths a day? Only reasonable explanation is that the public haven't had enough respect for the lockdown and rather than just abide by the rules as instructed, continually flouted the regulations and tried to find loopholes in the system, like those ****ing VE Day conga lines or Cummings' well-publicised trip. And now the government can't get the curve any flatter because more and more of the public are getting fed up with the restrictions so we're loosening them faster than the scientists believe is appropriate because we need to get the economy back up and running. How the hell is track and trace going to work when you've got 8,000 new cases a day, many of whom will be asymptomatic?

There will be a second spike in cases now, and there will inevitably be a second period in lockdown in one form or another, I'm pretty much resigned to it now. The government's handling of this has been a complete **** show from day 1, but the biggest mistake was putting far too much faith in the British public. Collectively we have no common sense, and have continually proven this. But to be honest, who can blame us, when even at the top of government we have idiots operating heavy machinery on public roads to test that their impaired eyesight is still good enough for them to drive 260 miles across the country with their wife and child in the car?

We've spent over two months in lockdown - if this had been handled correctly and was enforced properly we could've been out inside a month, albeit with social distancing maintained.
Very true and the idiots were out in force yesterday in the countryside and the beaches. It's all over social media herding together like sheep. Look after your own it's what I'm doing. I won't be going to no pubs or restaurants when they open. I do t trust the brain dead public at all. What a country we have become.

Yup, mostly english immigrants & english tourists that are checking their eyesight out. <whistle>
It must be bud there are enough of them about. Why did they not close all beaches and national parks and beauty spots. Anyone with a tiny bit of common sense could see what would happen. I based my foresight looking at the weather forecast. These politicians are supposed to know what they are doing. This country is screwed and I'm glad not a young person facing this future.

I'm with you in my approach. Mrs WJ & I are going to maintain lockdown long after we're told it's ok to go out.

I'm just back from Morrisons, & it's a nightmare in there. Yes, they control how many can get in, but there should be an IQ test too. Loads of morons crashing into you by not looking where they're going, picking up every single loaf before picking 'the best', shopping in teams & blocking aisles, and people coming at you at all angles. Stay alert? Pretty sure if you tried to stab them they wouldn't realise what was going on. The general British public don't know what 'alert' means, either that are not capable of managing it.

Yeah I try morrisons at half eight Sunday morning and it's not too bad. I have to wait for NHS etc to finish shopping. But then of course tills not open till ten. I live two minutes by car from sainsbury in Wakefield. I go after six in the evening and it's nearly empty of shoppers. Sometimes they are short on stuff but no problem I do without or get something else. So shopping later in the day may work for you too. Stay safe bud and beware the idiots this virus will return I'm sure.

Morribobs is a 3 minute slouch round the corner for me. I prefer to drive to Aldi, which is a couple of miles up the road. It's smaller, so it's almost like a one way system, without them marking it out. You still get numpties going against the flow, right enough. Jeez! They only allow so many in the shop, & only 1 per household, which is a Godsend.

Btw, a clip that you & Chesh might appreciate ...

It's something about the sun in this country - as soon as the temperature creeps above 12 degrees every twat and his dog decides it's necessary to go to the beach or have a barbecue or go to a beer garden. We're in lockdown, just obey the bloody rules <doh>

I'm still (fairly!) young and I don't think I'd be at any risk of the virus but I just cannot comprehend the intellectual vacuity and selfishness of the public not to protect the elderly and the more vulnerable. Nobody wants to be in lockdown at all but I'm sure it must be a lot worse for them, especially where they may be shielding. But no, rather than doing as we're told and staying inside as much as humanely possible to help the numbers die out, instead people flock to beauty spots and beaches and somehow react with utter incredulity that they're really busy, as though their being there isn't part of the ****ing problem.

Think the government have just accepted that this is the extent of the virus they're willing to tolerate - which I'm sure will provide a huge sense of consolation for the families of the 200+ dead every day.

Not sure if you'll be aware of a couple of colloquialisms she used. Nat King Cole, usually shortened to Nat King in Scottish rhyming language is probably the more obvious - rhymes with hole, as in 'Nailed on ah'm gettin' ma Nat King tonight'. 'Taps Aff' (tops off) is a reference to Scottish weather. You sometimes hear it on the telly weather forecast. 'Sunny spells 'n' 10 degrees tomorrow, so ah guess it'll be taps aff doon at Err (Ayr) beach'.
