Shame because Greece relies heavily on tourism. I don't want to see any country struggle but I think they are shooting themselves in the foot here?
I had some great holidays in Greece.

They really should be applauded for the fact they would rather keep their citizens safe instead of purely chasing the tourist dollar.

Greece has decided not to allow UK holidayers in when things resume on June 15th (due to our poor covid record)... mmm. let's see how long that lasts? The Brits will go elsewhere and spend their money.

Probably helps them attract other tourists given we’re the most likely to be bringing Covid over.

Missed the talk of furlough yesterday.......totally agree with this G.
Just seems that there are more than a few unscrupulous companies (BA, Virgin, EasyJet etc) who are totally abusing the system, using it to pay their staffs wages and have plans to axe them anyway.
Spoke to a couple of mates from BA yesterday who have been furloughed again till the end of June and they aren’t expecting to get their jobs back. Talk of the company sacking all staff and taking back who they want on vastly inferior contracts. These are people who have worked 30+ years for the company and are being tossed aside in the name of greed and profit. Remember when BA say they are skint, they like to forget to mention the 9 BILLION in cash reserve they hold and the fact that they (IAG) are in the process of buying Air Europa for a Billion.
It’s an outrage that this is being allowed.

I think its acknowledged there will be a second spike. It is whether it can be managed/contained whilst carrying on back to some semblance of normality that is the issue.

Difficult one that. The most obvious way to avoid a second spike would be to make an example of Cummings but that very simple measure won't be one that Bojo will take. Just a simple bit of honesty that he was wrong not to do so and a bit of resolve now in order to get the message home to our free thinkers. For the leader of a party that prides itself on being the upholders of law and order it's amazing just how wobbly the rule of law is when it comes to your most trusted spin doctor.

The only thing to remember with this is that while there are big firms like the airlines who will take the piss, there are many small companies who are really using furlough in an attempt to survive and keep the jobs alive. Let’s hope that a serious number of them pull through. This one size fits all approach needs a good looking at.

Are we any better off than early March?

In the last two days both my neighbours have had visitors inside their houses.

The moment you say that things are going OK and the restrictions will relax, people start acting like they already have relaxed.

The 5 tests seem flaky - we keep saying that they must be met before the next phase but it doesn't seem to be the case. Regarding infection rates, BoJo says an average of 2,300 cases being confirmed over the last 7 days and then Witty says estimates of 54,000 per week which he admitted was still high (that's about 7,700 a day so three times higher than the confirmed cases).

Avoiding a second spike is also one of the 5 conditions (predicted for July).

The devil in me suspects that the abandonment of order also goes a little way to exonerate a particular aide and that this is a deadly diversion tactic.

Either way, this seems too risky and potentially mean that those of us sticking to the rules have put our lives on hold for three months needlessly.

Meanwhile the death toll keeps going up (I read today we are one of the highest in Europe for excess deaths which is an allowed comparator except we're still behind on the curve).

Just pissed off with this **** show that has no end in sight.

Starting to wonder how Whitty can stand up there beside these ****s. He's supposed to be the real deal on this sort of thing but you don't need to be a scientist to know the last 3-4 weeks have been a shambles. Looking forward to hearing how we are doing against the 200,000 tests per day that Johnson stated we would achieve by tomorrow. As far as I can see we are still only doing about half of this number. Another statistical manipulation coming up!

Add int that, they are still adding in the tests sent out...and now the limited number of antibody tests we are also doing....it is called scraping the barrel

I lost all faith and respect for Whitty a long time ago. Apparantly the sage advice is that unlockdown has come too early yet we are following the science. Make no mistake, this is the governments doing from now on. Science cant be used as an excuse. 6 people on one site of 9 that I was supposed to work on have all tested positive.
