I think there is some merit in this.

Perhaps just one enlarged local club might be able to get the better of Cas, Wakey, Widnes and all those other small M62 towns who seem to get the better of our local RL clubs on a regular basis.

Not sure about the name though. Maybe an aviary themed one to continue the Robin/Airlie Bird tradition: Hull Kestrels or Hull Falcons?

It could be the solution to the violence and disturbances that have plagued this city for decades, and gained us a notorious reputation for being a city split right down the middle and brawling housewives scrapping it out on the pitch.
Now that is a far more sensible and practical solution to this ailing minority sport which oddly, despite being widely published locally as 'the best sport (and fans) in the world' still hasn't caught on outside of parts of Yorkshire and a bit of the old Lancashire boundary.

And dare I suggest they play the Robin-o-drome of whatever they call it in Marfleet?

Purpose built RL stadium with that authentic 'rough n ready' feel about it?

Then we could also see more summer concerts at the KCOM into the bargain.

What's not to like ?

Latest desperate proposal in rugby league land to save the floundering minority sport is to streamline the super league. Apparently there were conditions attached to the latest Government handout the game received and from that comes a proposal that some of the clubs merge and form a 'streamlined' super league.
With the typical disrespect of our club and game the RL 'community' show us, the proposal suggests that the two Hull RL clubs merge and call themselves Hull City.
Obviously unaware that a club of that name already exists in the city of Hull.
This hairbrained scheme will probably never see the light of day but it is out there. Then again who would have thought a club based in Canada would be cobbled together to play in the 'Rough, tough, its rugby league' ( but only in parts of Northern Britain) ?
Or one in France even ?
Stranger things have been allowed to happen.

Just in case anyone thinks it’s a serious proposal, it wasn’t, it was actually just something suggested by a bloke called Mick on Twitter.

I happened to be in Toronto when some of the polyester clad hordes (almost a dozen or so) from somewhere close to the M62 (can’t remember who, the adverts worn as shirts all blend into one) arrived to watch their heroes play against the English Super League team Toronto Wolfpack.
Toronto is a pretty cool and sophisticated place...there was a contrast.
To be fair there might be something in this merger idea though.
Canada is less populated than the UK, but is more populated than the M62 sliver that the Super League calls home. Maybe if the game gets popular in Canada there could be more Canadian teams created and all the English ones could merge into one and compete in Canada, and near the M62 when the Canadian teams visit?
Coming Saturday...your very own Toronto Wolfpack vs The M62 Pie-eaters. We understand the visiting fans from United England are all staying in their usual accommodation, the spare room at Vera & Dave’s house. Thanks again to them, and their bed sponsors Maple Leaf Structural Strengthenings - ‘No weight too big’
Until then grapple fans, stay safe
