I’m hoping.... Starmer seems a calmer and far more intelligent leader than Corbyn, I’m hoping he asks sensible direct questions and concerns. I’m hoping there is no ranting and raving and that we end the day on a clearer picture.

Corbyn today would have ranted and raved and he would have went off on a political slant that would have benefited nobody. I’ve high hopes Starmer will prove to be a viable opposition leader. Today is his first real test and boy has Boris given him plenty of ammunition

As I understood it, the Irish didn't want a closed border. Now, suddenly....................<doh>

He's a terrorist sympathiser and is detested by serving and ex soldiers alike. He has no alternatives to offer so is trying to look good when he should be doing all he can to help. This is a national crisis and cheap shots and useless questions should not happen. As for wee Jimmy Sturgeon she's got little man syndrome. A seriously deluded person she is and if any Scots want to back her I suggest they move to Scotland and back her there. Anything she says won't affect England. The Labour Party needs scrapping and starting from scratch.

Easy with hindsight, but I don't remember anyone saying lock down sooner, if fact many seemed to think he was going over the top unnecessary.

We didn’t and don’t for trade purposes. However a temporary one to save lives would definitely be welcome

Three weeks into a Chinese style lockdown, there would have been no new cases, but I don't think as a country we would have put up with no cars and a bag of rice being dropped off once a week.

If we close the borders millions would starve to death, the UK isn't Australia.

WTF are you talking about re. Sturgeon? You know fcuk all about what she's doing & how she's viewed.

She's the First Minister for Scotland, and by all accounts is doing an amazing job. The nation is perfectly clear what is required of them. No confusing measures from her. She's also doing it all herself - not using her cabinet. My sister tells me that she's being interviewed on the tv first thing in the morning & last thing at night. And always consistent. And tbh, looks exhausted by it all.

As you know, the SNP has an unbelievably huge mandate in Scotland, yet during this crisis, there has been a further swing of 8% towards the SNP. Put it this way, there's not many people left to swing! So I'm not quite sure that the Scottish public agree with you re. her being deluded. Her popularity & following is at unprecedented levels. My sister in law has hated her with a vengeance for donkey's years. She now loves her. It's widely acknowledged that her best quality is straight-talking truth, especially in acknowledging mistakes made, & those yet to be made. It's also been made perfectly clear that Boris the Butcher of Britain tried to pressure her to follow his 'way'. She announced publicly that she would not fold under this pressure - she believes in protecting Scotland & it's people - not follow the fcuking buffoon down south that changes his mind every two minutes.

Have to disagree with this. #LockdownNow was trending for weeks on twitter before anything happened. High street shops shut before the government told them to and let's not forget the football league abandoned games less than 24 hours after the government had said things should resume as normal. The disgust at Cheltenham going ahead was on the front page of all the papers and that was nearly two weeks before lockdown was officially announced.

I wouldn't like to be the one trying to get the timings right of it all right, we might not know for a while if we took the right option but I seem to remember there were plenty of people asking why we were taking so long.

I was in the pub watching a singer/comedian 1 week before lockdown, we had all the jokes about toilet rolls and looneys over reacting no one was taking it serious, everyone was fighting to get match tickets for the season run in, tell me the name of one person who stopped buying a ticket because he thought it was all about to stop.
If you look when I started this thread, I saw this coming, not as bad as it has, but I did expect big problems.
I told plenty to prepare, stopped doing so as most told me I was mad, but myself, Mother, Niece etc had already bought masks and hand sanitiser in Feb, I also bought some for my friends and In laws who told me I was mad but were very thankful to be given some when in sudden panic they found the shops empty in march. We were slow to lockdown, but Boris was right, the publics will to stay in lockdown wouldn't last long and if we had done it sooner, people would probably have started going out, and driving right in the middle of the peak which could have killed many more. Mistakes have been made, but most of the world has made them, not just us.
