Sure, we’ve always known you can pass it on without symptoms... the point is they test people to see who HAS it... not reliable antigen/antibody tests to see who has HAD it.

If I had it. There is no way my wife and kids haven’t had it. All will be over it now. That’s part of the accidental ‘benefit’ of a delayed lockdown. Of course none of us might have had it. Multiply that ? across the country and the level of ‘immunity’ is a huge unknown.

This article shows the huge spread of data and wide variance in terms of estimated infection rates

TBH that story is rubbish, people getting tested because they are on the front line, showing symptoms etc are being found infected roughly 1/20 in testing. These are very high risk people, the general public numbers would be a tiny fraction of that % not higher as the daily fail are saying. Sales pitch rubbish to sell papers.

As they haven’t found a vaccine for any corona related virus.... whilst they’ve never thrown anything like the resources they currently are ...there are no guarantees.

There’s every chance we hit herd immunity before we get vaccine

which would suit Dom Cummins. Kill off the old, the infirm, the obese... all the strains on the nhs and pensions removed. Marvellous for the economy.
To get to herd immunity we would have 500,000 dead, don't think we will ever get close to that.

its true they’re a high risk group but they’re testing if you have it not if you have had it, we don’t know how many they test have actually already had it and are recovered.

The mail is a dreadful excuse for a newspaper but the relevance to the discussion was it gives a range of potential infection rates over here based on other countries testing. All of which give a death rate below 1% some of them way below 1%. Their extrapolation of those figures to show Very low or very high numbers in the uk just highlights how little we know subject to antigen/antibody tests.

herd immunity doesn’t mean everyone has to have had it - and it depends on the actual infection to death rates which are unknown as per previous answer

I sure as hell hope it wouldn’t mean that number dead, but to some degree also depends on that ‘died with’ v ‘died of’ argument.

I remember reading that due to similar virus and disease between 40% and 70% of the population would need to catch it for herd immunity.

That's 28-49 million people.

Death rate of 1% (estimated) would be 280k to 490k deaths. Probably less than that once the old and vulnerable are dead.

Don't they have a squad? Most of their players out injured should be back as cover for those allegedly testing positive.

During the course of a season multiple players are out with injuries and illness, not unreasonable for season to restart and clubs to have one or two players who are CV patients out. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

They've looked at their remaining fixtures and know they could well be fooked. Self preservation I understand but they are looking like real arses

From what I've seen for herd immunity to start working requires a 50-80% infection rate, would be massive death rate which I think is why we did a quick lockdown when we realised what was starting to happen in Italy.
