In a round about sort of way I thought about this, the latest interview when mentioning FPP to (hopefully) contribute more in the championship, why mention the Americans if the people hes talking to arent them? If there is other people currently having high level talks about taking over Donald would have massively put that in jeopordy saying what he said about wanting FPP to finance the club in the further down the line. I would say other people would have walked away after that interview as he more or less said he wants to run the club with the Americans

Maybe, that is attractive in it's own way. But they didn't put it in for him to be prudent. They put it in for him to use it to make us better, which he has not done. Like I said, not saying at all that it can't happen because everything has a chance, but it isn't logical to do more money until he's spent the original investment and done something with it.

I don't think he'll have scared them off by talking about something that is objectively on the table, and it's not a secret that he feels forced out. If they did walk away because of that, they're more thin-skinned than him and definitely a narrow escape :D

Becoming owned by someone who's business is exposed to high street retail right now, would be a typical SAFC move.

Don't get me wrong Cashley is a cnut, but the skunk tops rarely give him credit when he took over an almost bankrupt club. He is supposed to be an astute businessman, (although a gambler), he did not do enough due diligence and never realised the debts owed for players.
Obviously he took delight in winding the fans up...
Saudi...yes I would like very rich owners to help us do a Chitty, but who would be next PolPot, Hitler, Attila the Hun!

Are both options you have heard positive for the future, Smug?

One is mate and the other seems to be although I've honestly no idea who the second people are.

It both involves money coming in so, on the surface, good news.

I keep getting flak for mentioning FPP but there's been no suggestion they're off, it's just the cost and other circumstances.

Let's say Donald wants £40 million and they end up paying half that amount ..

... there's your promotion budget sorted and they now have a Championship club.

Invest £10 and Donald gets us up that's the budget for stabilising in the Championship.

It may seem like peanuts for billionaires but they don't like throwing their nuts around <laugh>

And... you wouldn't appoint a loser that happens to be Salmon pants s mate either with a track record of ZERO as new CEO. Typical of what's gone on at the club over the last year.

So they want to put more in now? And they'll take over properly?

    It's an option.

They've certainly not said they won't put more in or take over.

It would very easy for them to do just that.

Thanks Smug. You’re right about Donald going very quiet too. I am sure Radio Newcastle will have have been trying to get him back on for an update. The last communication two weeks ago, as we know (Talksport), he was still talking about FPP.

Don’t know the ins and outs of our finances when he took over, but they were “perilous” apparently. To be financially stable, that has to be acknowledged. As for being a brilliant owner, the fact that your fans love him shows what a nightmare it’s been having him running us for 13 years.
It seems his aim every season is to think of another way to alienate the fans from the club. He’s singlehandedly ripped the heart and soul out of Newcastle United. He’s many a time had our fans infighting. We have a sterile feeling about the club, no excitement any more. He runs the club the same as his tacky sports direct shops.
Agreed, he has thrown some money around recently, but no way did he spend £40m on Joelinton. That will come out in the wash. He took over when the tv money went sky high. He’s had around £100m a year from them so it’s understandable why he threw a bit money to get us promoted. He won’t have that tv money to rely on. He’s skint. If he did take over, he’ll not invest any money into you, just misery.
The bloke is an obnoxious twat and I would even wish him on yourselves.

Whilst I hope the FPP interest is still valid, I wouldn't necessarily say that him name dropping them a while back would mean anything. In fact, I believe a few months back in the initial times of their interest, when SD was mentioning other parties were interested it was speculated he was doing that to try and move things along with FPP. It's entirely plausible he's doing the same in reverse and giving a gentle reminder to other prospective purchasers/investors that he still has them in the picture.

I seem to remember there being links with all sorts of purchasers pre-SD, such as a certain Madrid based group (Madr-Ox?) which was potentially revolving around Repsol. I wonder if their involvement is discussed / renewed.

It would. I just meant has someone told you that they're back and actively in talks with Donald to try and do that? Because that would be new information for sure.

I haven't heard anything on that front, albeit the contact I had with them now works for the Malaga owner so not sure he'd be told if they were. They weren't enamoured with Donald at all though, in fact he fundamentally altered the deal to the point that it drove them away. Sounded like they wanted nothing to do with him by the end, which we can all relate to :D
