I have the subtitles on when watching English TV....either I’m going deaf or the actors are mumbling through their lines more nowadays
Almost forgot the Polish film ‘Volhynia’.....one of the most horrific films about the Second World War I’ve ever seen. It shows the tensions between the Ukrainian and Polish civilians and militia and the atrocities that took place. A brilliant but disturbing film.
Try The Battle of Algiers, about the Algerian war of independence. They wouldn’t show it in France until the 1970s. Or, on another tack Bicycle Thieves, for me the most moving piece of cinema ever, set in post war Rome. Probably number 1 on my favourite films list. For today anyway. Both films feature non professional actors.
Another for me to look up mate.... Have you seen ‘Life if Beautiful’ ? I shed tears at the end of that film
Yep. You are going to collapse at Bicycle Thieves. It’s about poverty and humiliation. Bundle of laughs.
Battle Royale is great Try Audition - slow burner, but I nearly vomited at the end it's so graphic Korean films - Old Boy is great, but the other two films in that trilogy really get overlooked because it is so good - Sympathy for Mr Vengence and Lady Vengence equally as chilling. Some good Spanish horror films - [Rec], Pans Labyrinth and The Orphange. I enjoyed the original Let The Right One In, Swedish vampire film - fairly decent remake in the US too. Great Chinese war films, Red Cliff and Red Cliff 2, about a huge battle at the end of the Han Dynasty in AD208.
