Yes, there are those who believe the government wasted a week or two but others also say it made no difference. I agree with your economic point. Of course, they want to keep the country going, more deaths would be caused if the country flatlined. I also see how people are struggling regarding work. How would they react if you added the extra 2-3 weeks on? A lot of questions that need to be answered after this but I feel we will never get the full version/truth.
Given the source of the story (the Telegraph) I am inclined to believe it, and it does indeed beggar belief. I have no idea how such a decision would be made, whether it was done purely by officials with/without medical advice or whether it would need political sign off. There are lots of things I don’t understand about it, including where the capacity in the care homes came from to take these patients and who paid for them, given the perennial issues with ‘bed blocking’ due to lack of social care arrangements. This does strike me as at the very least negligent if true and if not criminal then possibly corporate manslaughter. I’m not knowledgeable on the legal ins and outs of this, but I think there are some on here (Yorkie? Goldie?) who might be.
I really don’t see how in an infection that grows exponentially it could make no difference to put measures in place to slow the spread a week earlier. We had a long lag between the first infection and lockdown compared to most countries and it shows.
For ****s sake, you should know by now that maths isn’t true. Have you been called out for the volunteering thing yet? I read that the 600,000 who have passed the vetting have only had 50,000 tasks allocated to them as yet.
I gave up with it after a few hours without a sniff and there are loads of volunteers nearby on my little map. Apparently they’re going to load far more tasks on there soon so if they do I’ll log back on in the evenings.
I agree wholeheartedly Beth. Statements from WHO seem to indicate carehome deaths are a problem across Europe too.
12 of the 18 deaths here are carehome related 1 carehome has 10 deaths and no one knows where the initial infection came from
A third of all COVID deaths reported in Scotland are care home related https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/18396761.coronavirus-scotland-third-deaths-now-care-homes/ And this released an hour ago.... Suspected cases rise by 176 in care homes Also included in today's Scottish Government figures was an update on how the virus is impacting on care homes. 526 (49%) adult care homes have lodged at least one notification for suspected Covid-19* 342 of these adult care homes have reported more than one case of suspected Covid-19 384 (35%) adult care homes have a current outbreak of suspected Covid-19 as of 21 April** 2,621 cumulative cases of suspected Covid-19 in care homes, an increase of 176 suspected cases on the previous day. * Not all of these care homes will still have outbreaks ** This is a care home where at least one care home resident has exhibited symptoms during the last 14 days If this trend is followed in England, that's easily another 5-8000 deaths still to add on to their lovely graphs - not too reassuring
There is a current TV advert recruiting for care staff. However none of the care staff in the advert are earing any PPE. - gloves etc. The PPE is also down to the home managers to organise, purchase and ensure that it is in date and appropriate for the task in hand. Also, if care staff have to move between homes and they have the virus but do not realise it then this will as I understand be more easily transmitted. There are also lots of younger care staff who always seem to think that they will ever get hurt or catch anything going around. Again, I when I worked in a home as safety adviser, I used to pull my hair our when you came across dirty door handles for example as staff would touch them and then place hands on other surfaces. Every year we would have some kind of flu / seasonal illness. I feel for the older generation in these homes. Those with dementia will not understand what is happening. The Chinese (sorry that I harp on about this) have a lot to answer for. If the USA has 50,000 deaths then China to report less than 4 seems to be to be "incorrect".....
With all these ‘friends’ you seem to have Ellers.....I pity you during this lockdown.....it must be very difficult for you
