Looks like they asked for it the day after they announced it was already on it's way.

This new ONS data takes a lot of explaining, but sadly the statisticians said that it will takes ‘years’ to understand it.

8,000 more deaths in the week ending 10 April than the five year average - 18,000 over 10,000. That’s a ****ing big %, but of course, over a full year there might yet be no ‘extra’ deaths at all - if this years numbers fall below the average for a lot of the rest of the year. Only 6,200 of these ‘extra’ deaths have been attributed to the direct or indirect effects of COVID19. The other 1800 are a mystery, but might have something to do with the halving of A&E attendances. People aren’t getting their chest pain, mild paralysis or dizziness or falls checked out because they are either too scared to go to hospital in case they catch the virus or they feel they will be a burden. Obviously it’s the elderly and vulnerable suffering in both the COVID19 and the ‘mystery’ cohorts.

Which begs the question, has the lockdown caused the ‘mystery’ extra deaths?

    Discuss.

Can anyone explain why we have 2 lines on the country death graph on the daily briefings? One for hospital and one for all settings. Is It because if they were added together we would be above everyone barring the usa? And that wouldnt look good to show the nation.

There’s a lag in the second line.

Don’t think it would do any harm though to mention which countries include all settings apart from making those on the stage uncomfortable. Also as someone with an intermediate grasp of PowerPoint they could try harder to make the graphs clearer.

The ****ing graphics are Stone Age. Many would not be allowed as part of a submission of evidence to any kind of regulatory authority as the scales are incredibly misleading, the choice of comparators is opaque and the numbers themselves may not be comparable. Plus they are ugly.

I’m almost certain they’re created to be as difficult to interpret for the average bloke on the street during the 30 seconds on screen as possible.

I don't know if this is something I have missed, but have the buses and trains or are they being hygienically disinfected before being used again? It just seems to me that for all the PPE in the world - some of it being good and some of it not so), surely cleaning equipment thoroughly is something that should be done?
When I worked in care, the majority of staff tended to use public transport. Sometimes, we found that staff thought it more beneficial to travel across London to get to the homes. Now, what if one care staff touches an "infected" area on a mode of transport, gets into the home, (all without realising they have been infected) - touch door handles to get in and start the spreading process. I have found out that staff from one of the northern homes I had been to have had to self isolate.
As so far as better quality PPE, the equipment I have sourced for the engineers has to be certain standards due to the work they carry out - hopefully the NHS and Care staff can start to have PPE that is robust enough to be washed at the appropriate temperatures. Not of all it would be or could be washed / cleaned but hopefully once the virus is brought under control or eliminated, then maybe we could have some research and development into the items that could be.

They are written that way, WWR so that they tell the story the government/scientists want you to believe/understand. Our line follows that of Italy.
Therefore all is good-ish...i.e. it is not following the USA curve, which is bad-ish

I am assuming that there is no statistical trickery that will get it onto the Germany line....there are lies, damn lies....and statistics

    I. e reported cases at a hospital. People who are just sick stay at home and are not counted. The minute you feel that you are in trouble you ring for an ambulance that comes straight away.
10 % of whose hospitalised isn't too bad.
