Did the TV just say a huge amount of masks are being flown from UK to Spain, Germany, Italy because the UK government doesn't want them and the manufacturer has sold then on? If true I hope we don't run out of masks. Own goal here.
Here in Thailand it is against the law now not to wear a mask when you go out. Always wore one anyway when we went out shopping, once this corona appeared. They obviously both reduce the chances of you passing on the virus you may have but not know it, and give some protection from infection. So why not wear them? Doesnt hurt! In my experience, you don't try to fiddle with your face when wearing one.Seems to be a cultural hate of them in Europe that people cant get over even now, when the spead of the virus looks far greater in Europe than in Asian countries where it is normal to wear a mask. I think the hot, humid climate here and in other neighbouring countries also helps, the most dangerous environments are the air conditioned shops and offices. I'm hoping for a long hot summer in Europe and N.America.
I just spent £10 in the corner shop on a pack of 10 totally useless masks. They look like J-Cloths with a bit of elastic attached and probably cost the retailer no more than £1. Ridiculous and worthless, but I got them so that I would be able to continue using public transport when the next pointless restriction is imposed..
Hancock seems to have vanished. Patel is too doom and gloom. Rishi was yesterday. Raab is too scared. The business secretary is too posh. They may need to reboot Gove or Jenrick.
I actually think the government should have used someone with experience in the top job. Why didn't they drag out May or Cameron? Tell them to get clued up on all the scientific/NHS data and get out there. I find it lacks continuity when we see a different person each day.
Cant see it being Jenprick after this turkey PPE fiasco. Would it be fair to say that they lied on national tv. Time will tell.
Wouldn’t exactly have been a ringing endorsement if they had to wheel out “remainer” Cameron or “traitor” May. I agree though we should have as many adults in the room as possible ideally including begging that Sally whatshername to be involved who Beth says would have helped. Like or loathe them (obviously I think they’re mainly useless ****s) it’s an inexperienced Cabinet even if some of them might prove to be brilliant intelligent politicians (they won’t, obviously. Maybe Sunak).
This is missing part of the jigsaw. They said last week that they thought that perhaps 10% of the population had had the virus, but how can they know? Many will have no symptoms and many more will have mild symptoms. Without sufficient testing for those with the virus, and with no test at all for those who have had it, we're in the dark and the mortality statistics are meaningless.
How P'd off will people be if after we finally get tested something like 70% of the population had it or are asymptomatic?
Even if they achieved that, which they won't, it's only testing for those who might currently have the virus. We need the antibody test.
