We are just stumbling through this. The government need help and not from the current specialist advisors

    Who's advice was this Bob?
I'm just playing devil's advocate by suggesting that a lot of the mistakes possibly weren't made by politicians.

Those gatherings were ok'd because the government wanted to keep everything open at the time. These were political decisions.

That's a contradiction right there Col.

Either you think it's man made (from the labs) and it's spread out into the public or it's passed from wild animals which should not be eaten (dead or alive) via the wet markets.

sure, the government of the day take the advise from their science advisors (you can blame whoever you want in here) but to still keep our borders open is criminally insane from our government as well as not changing our manufacturing base in the UK to at the very least start producing PPE.

Can't something be man-made (from labs) passed on to animals then back to humans again?
We need beth here. Didn't they do that with rabbits (Myxomatosis) years ago... although I don't think we can get it I believe it can enter the body/cells?

There have been countless cases of people not abiding by the lockdown and are still meeting friends/family or going to out. We can't blame everything on them but I am sure they have made blunders.

The Chinese government gave us a problem, lied about it, and didn’t really give us much warning. At this point (and as is well documented on these pages I really really dislike the Chinese government) the buck passes to the rest of the world.

The warning the Chinese government did give was largely ignored by policy makers in this country.

A mixture of (understandable but negligent) unwillingness to believe it was that serious, poor/conflicting advice, and civil service bureaucracy led to a very slow response when it came. Really April 1st (irony noted) before requests were being put out for all the stuff we need, a week after lockdown started.

Since then a series of promises re tests, PPE, ventilators etc have been made and broken. Bureaucracy, incompetence and magical wish fulfilment thinking probably to blame.

The accuracy of data (not just from here) and the disease and economic modelling seems to have been woefully inadequate, and at least some of the latter beset by professional jealousies.

People are dying (not just directly due to the virus) the economy is going down the pan, other countries are handling this better.

It is the obligation of any engaged citizen to ask questions, criticise and point out failure, poor communication, lazy thinking, lack of accountability AND successes. So let’s hope the drop in hospital deaths figures is maintained, and that the NHS, currently with loads of capacity apparently, continues to cope. And that the promises, if they are still relevant, are delivered on.

    Completely agree.

I think Beth explained a while ago that if the virus was man made it would leave a particular 'marker'.
I read somewhere that it was somehow developed in the labs using animals and it spread into the community.
    Probably bollocks.
    So much is!

I've had a crap couple of days and I'm just swinging from the hip a bit.

Probably best to leave it for a bit.
Working the next three days anyway.

If the rest of the world was listening to advice that said that lockdown was the way to go, why were our chosen advisors recommending otherwise, would you say?

    No idea.
Why have Sweden not done it?
Weren't you in favour of herd immunity?

I'm still not convinced that the trashing of the economy won't cause many more deaths than the virus.

Am I the only one who thought the 'Herd' was the best way to go?

Completely mindless idiots. Put them up against families of the 40,000+ souls who have died and see if they can justify their stupidity.

It's idiots like these and their hopeless President that is killing people but they don't care. As much as I feel for those who have lost loved ones, the whole US attitude of we are greater than any natural disaster, shows that they do not deserve to be called human beings. Words completely fail me. Rant over.

I was in favour, and still am. I do think that the economic fallout from lockdown will cause many more early deaths than the virus and that these deaths won't just be a few weeks or months early (as most Covid-19 deaths are), they will be years or decades early.

The government favoured herd immunity and I supported it, but they now deny that it was ever a policy.
