Yes, I work for a distribution company so I agree it is a problem. I'd be amazed if things like that haven't been relaxed in these times though, absolutely astonished.
They’re different issues. It’s wrong to conflate them and throw our arms in the air as if we were helpless because China is devious. Don’t think anyone is saying China is blameless. This is the same China we’re relying on having a great relationship with in Brexit Britain.
I don’t think I am, fortunately. I don’t doubt history will be re-written and the dear leader will be protected at all costs. Every person will be thrown under every bus necessary to ensure that. Numbers, even massaged, don’t lie for long.
I agree, I was more than surprised when I talked to him, but as you know there are jobsworth morons out there, he has delivered to same place and has had no problems since I believe, so it has probably been sorted Out to prevent it happening again, but in the transport game it’s anybody’s guess.
Watford I am not going through this again mate. All deaths are recorded and we will all know the total amount. No one here has ever spoken or worried about how death is recorded before this. AS soon as that stupid story came out ... you want to know how many died in some care homes on the IOW on Tuesday? Seriously mate you need to chill a bit.
This is the first major pandemic I’ve lived through in this country which is probably why. I just find it bizarre. Final year of uni I did a module on the Russian economy. Mostly it was as dull as it sounds but the bits that were more history than economics were interesting. I don’t think our use of state propaganda is a million miles away from theirs. We’re fortunate to still have the 33rd most free press in the world so the odd negative story is still allowed.
Level four lockdown ends at 11.59 next Monday night So at least we get through the anzac day public holiday before restricted life restarts under level three
Back on the trowel again today. It's a refreshing change after **** knows how many weeks! Lost track of time.
We dont have levels. We just have erm....I'm not even too sure what ours is! Something like, if you cant stay at home then go out!
TBH Watford I don't think any of us has lived through anything like this. I also did a module on Russia (sadly mine was on artwork...although I enjoyed writing about the propaganda posters of the time). I can't agree on the state media bit as we have probably the best and oldest democracy in the World. We can get away with most stuff here (although they are clapping down due to social media). We are not being fully watched just yet? Although I mentioned it last week... Have you read the essay by Michel Foucault called Discipline and Punish? The section I refer to is the discipline part. It's a good read describing how our bodies and minds are conditioned. I wrote an essay on governments and the surveillance of its people. He uses Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon as an example in one part. Really interesting and relevant today. I think I can find the 2-3 page section and post it. Fill your boots mate but I think a lot of the negative stuff is more about Boris/government than the virus. For me, too many people have a Brexit/Election hangover and are trying to score political points when it should be a time to support. There is a difference between questioning and accusing? I'm all for asking why, why, why? However, I can see the difference between a why question and unfounded accusations.
Have you got your bed pushed against a wall Jeff? Thanks for another installment of fantastic input mate. I'm glad you can be arsed posting now.
Yup, first time through a global pandemic like this which has involved lockdowns and people panicking at supermarkets and stuff. It feels oddly weird and fortunately i'm an introvert and a wife i can talk to (may not be a good thing for all people!) and don't mind being indorrs. I would hate to think of how people who are extroverts and love going out or those that live alone and are basically living in isolation. I have a fairly big family and it feels weird not seeing them at all except over video calls but i understand its for the best. Interesting stuff about propaganda in our media and how it's being used to control us as a population. The older i get, the more i distrust all our news agencies as i read it (although i still continue reading it). I don't know whether it's because the media has become more polarising or whether it's because i've become aware at how polarising it is. There will always be a case that you can incite your point of view in a population of 60 million (on immigrants, benefit fraud, elite tax evasion *****s etc) as long as thats the view you want to show. I only read it a few articles (and just did a google it has stopped publishing) but there was a website called theknifemedia which analysed the same news articles from many sources (bbc, daily mail, guardian etc) and basically highlighted the language used in each one that would help angle a view on the situation rather than just keeping to the basic facts (rather than say a 80 year old pensioner was attacked it would be like the 80 year old frail war hero was horrifically attacked). Nowadays, i just basically keep to the bbc or whats posted here but if its something that's really interesting which i think may have another side of the story i may frequent a few different sites to see if there is an alternative slant.
When I was researching CCTV and surveillance (god it seems so long ago) I found out that if I walked from Waterloo station to Covent Garden I would be picked up by over 200 CCTV cameras. I guess now it would be more? London is one of the most-watched places on earth. Add to that the information on phones/PC/tablets the government/GCHQ can find out so much about you by pressing a button. So can the US/China and all the rest that have our information... a bit scary. So they target you via Facebook and other stuff. The news is pretty unreliable these days due to its politicisation. The media did a job on Jezza (although he made a rod for his own back). Some of the media is trying to do a job on Boris and his government now. Don't get me started on Trump. When he doesn't have an answer to a question he calls it 'Fake' but in some cases, the media have been hard on him so who should we trust? Like you, I keep to the BBC although you have to take out a few bits before you get a decent story. I have gone off SkyNews because other than 1 or 2 presenters the show is cr2p. How Kay Burley and that awful Sarah Jane are allowed to present is questionable?
