    One other thing......

A fruit farm here flew in dozens of Bulgarian fruit pickers to gather the strawberry harvest...…..seems what happens in UK happens here as well....

I listened to a farmer on TV this morning defending it. He said he does employ English as well but the Romanians that flew in have experience in the job and have done this before.

A load of people applied for the roles. A small percentage turned up for interview. Once you whittle out those who don’t fancy it after a day or two and those who are simply not productive enough, I doubt you’re left with a lot.

Seems like a nice thing to do for an hour or two on a sunny day. Probably not so much for 50 hours a week even if you can get there in the first place.

Lost another family friend of similar age last night, he lives a couple of doors away from my daughter, when you've seen people as normal recently and then they're gone it really does shake you. Also a lady I worked with for many years is in ICU, so sad for all concerned.

Anyway, today I handed back my car and so am now retired, just can't see any safe way to do such a job. I had to travel back from Hayes by bus and tube/overground line. One train I boarded at Boston Manor had one other passenger on the whole train. The bus was less user friendly with one pillock coughing away in the back, I've had a thorough clean up now I'm home but that journey was not pleasant...

Many Brits thought the job was beneath them and would rather take dole money. Sad really.

There probably is a bit of that but I expect it’s more that people underestimate what it takes. You can’t just force people to be productive straight away even if they have a good attitude.

One of my contracts is supposed to start at the beginning of May for six weeks in London. Meaning I would have to get the train there and back every day, then work in W1. <yikes> The money is fab and I love the job but if it goes ahead, I will pull out. Not worth the risk.
Happy retirement Sooper and sorry to hear about your friend. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I wouldn’t have jumped at the chance if this was a decade ago. Fair play to anyone who can do it for a sustained period of time.

Sad news Sooper, when it happens personally to you and your group of friends it hits home more terribly than any set of large numbers can.

I do hope though that you have a long and happy retirement, and that the manner of when you retired is forgotten and replaced by happier memories. Best wishes for the future

It’s really not. Bad taste perhaps but not inaccurate.

Pleased to say we’ve pulled away from Montenegro and have Montserrat in our sights. Ruel Fox is the only Montserratian I know of so I’m assuming he’s their CMO.
