There seems to be folk on here desperate to get the figure as high as possible so they’ve got a great big stick to beat the government with.

How is quoting factual numbers being "desperate to get the figure as high as possible" ?

The Government isn't keen for the spiralling death rate in care homes to get air time because it highlights not only that the elderly with Covid symptoms are not being taken to ICU but also that there is a scandalous shortage of PPE for care home workers - responsibility for which both sit firmly with the Government.

Been a bit busy this morning but as I understand it our numbers are about 45% higher overall than the quickly accumulated daily NHS stats. This also more or less fits @Looney Leftie ’s estimate based on French data. Rather harrowing.

As the latest article on the BBC site states "Older people being 'airbrushed' out of virus figures" ... it's totally reprehensible.

I’ve never used the train unnecessarily. The trains aren’t for key workers only. Don’t you work for a train company? You should really know this, Archer.

Grumpy old sod.

Yes they are at the moment. People are being expelled from York station if they are not key workers. And yes, people have also been turned away with sob stories about how they need to use the train to get to Asda and take their granny their medication.

TPE are still trying to force their staff to go through the train selling and checking tickets though...

Thing is everyone wants the latest results and if whichever suit was put up for the daily briefing gave out stats from a week ago everyone would go nuts . The ONS stats are now in the media so if people are interested they will see them . The only criticism on this i would have that originally it wasn't made clear they were just giving hospital deaths and that was only fully acknowledged when the discrepancy between that & the ONS stats became apparent .

Please note this just refers to the stats presentation and not the complete ignoring of the Care / Nursing / Hospice needs .

Trump's argument last night about CNN. They're evil for fact-checking everything he says, including repeatedly citing his quote that coronavirus was a hoax when he keeps trying to claim he was the first to spot the danger.

Thought Trump was full on that SNL parody sketch of Sean Spicer last night. The thing is though, his not inconsiderable base love this, even knowing full well he's lying through his teeth. He reminds me of the full on shock and horror act the Russians pulled after Salisbury. "You can't accuse me of doing anything wrong! Do you know who I am? You're a bastard, you're channel are bastards and everyone knows you're bastards! You can't argue with that - bastards!"

You mean the thundercunts ****ing over their own populations in relation to the coronavirus?

However, could that be relevant to this thread eh? <laugh>

I thought general idea of this thread was the virus, its effect, how we get over that effect, how we live day to day in lockdown, how get out of lockdown and, ultimately, relax it and 'move on'.

It is instead a political slanging match, even if those involved can't ****ing see it, where the order of the day is to blame someone for it.

Start another politics thread, you can all **** off over to it and slag one another's political leanings off in perpetuity .

Otherwise, why BRB felt the need to merge an alternative non political thread is a bit odd tbf?

Strangely enough I'm not really political ... the main parties are much of a muchness ... but it does make me fume when I feel I'm being taken for a ride ... and the daily stats from the government have been doing just that. <cheers>

Politics and this situation go hand in hand....... should we forgive and forget.... Like a fk should we
